An eerie DraftKings Sports post on X on Tuesday showed identical stats in seven categories, a correlation of players and one obvious fact between the 2021 World Series champion Atlanta Braves and the 2026 Chicago White Sox. Like the 2026 White Sox, the 2021 Braves also got off to a difficult start.

The 2021 Braves and the 2026 White Sox both began their seasons with one win and four losses, and four victories and six defeats. DraftKings did not note that both teams began the season with four wins and eight losses. The White Sox fell to seven wins and 14 losses before turning their season around.

Atlanta had nine wins and 12 losses after 21 games in 2021. The Braves and White Sox recovered from their slow starts to get within a game of .500 with 17 wins and 18 losses. After 40 games, they fell back to 19 wins and 21 losses. Atlanta reached the All-Star Game with 44 wins and 45 losses in 2021. 

The White Sox had 50 wins and 45 losses at the 2026 All-Star break. Atlanta did not permanently go over .500 until it won for the 57th time in its 113th game in 2021. The White Sox have been over .500 since winning for the 22nd time in their 43rd game in 2026.

Shared records late in the season

The Braves and White Sox also had identical 59-56, 62-58 and 73-65 records. DraftKings highlighted the record with the White Sox at 73-65 entering their game at the Houston Astros on Wednesday night. Atlanta went 15-8 the rest of the way to finish the regular season with 88 wins and 73 losses. 

In addition to the nearly identical seasons that the Braves and the White Sox have had to this point, pitcher Sean Newcomb has been on both rosters, each team has an Acuna brother (Ronald on Atlanta and Luisangel on the White Sox) and both are Major League Baseball teams.

Third-seeded Atlanta upset the second-seeded Milwaukee Brewers in the National League Division Series, beat the fourth-seeded Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League Championship Series and beat the American League second-seeded Houston Astros in the World Series in 2021. 

The White Sox are currently the second seed in the American League, 3.5 games ahead of AL West leader Houston. Houston hosts the White Sox for two more games in a series critical for playoff seedings. On its way to the 2021 AL pennant, Houston eliminated the White Sox three games to one in the Division Series.
