The Baltimore Orioles selected Adley Rutschman with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2019 MLB Draft and he was expected to be part of the long-awaited turnaround of the franchise.

He is currently a member of the Boston Red Sox.

The O's traded Rutschman within the American League East division back in August and some fans were left shocked. The former No. 1 pick was gone just like that.

He returned to Camden Yards Thursday night and received quite the welcome.

The new Red Sox catcher came to bat in the top of the first and received a long standing ovation from his former home fans.

It was heartwarming to see this reaction both from the fans and from Rutschman. He made sure to let everyone know just how much he appreciated the well wishes in his return to his former home.

But he was not done just yet. 

The ovation came before his first at-bat of the game. A few pitches later, he hit the ball back into a familiar spot in his first MLB stadium.

It only took three pitches for Rutschman to homer in his return, leaving Orioles fans unsure of how to react. The ovation just ended and he instantly provided everyone with a flashback of what had been during his tenure in town.

The catcher's career in Baltimore is an interesting one to analyze. He was part of two playoff teams in 2023 and 2024, only for the O's to be swept both times. The team has not won a single playoff game since 2014.

He is now part of a Red Sox team set to earn a wild-card spot this season. The Orioles are still in contention for the third and final AL wild-card spot as well, potentially leaving some fans wondering why the trade was made in the first place.
