Leeds United have enjoyed a superb start to the summer transfer window, with Daniel Farke undoubtedly being backed heavily by the 49ers after securing survival.

The German’s decision to switch to a back three halfway through the campaign has allowed the Whites to secure Premier League survival and attempt to land top-level talents.

Harry Wilson has already put pen to paper on a four-year deal at Elland Road, subsequently joining the club after rejecting a new contract at fellow top-flight side, Fulham.

The Welsh international will be hoping to improve the Whites’ attacking department, after netting 10 goals and laying on seven assists for the Cottagers last campaign.

However, despite the deal for the aforementioned talent this window, the hierarchy have shown no signs of slowing down their recruitment drive ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.

How Muharemovic compares to Leeds’ current centre-backs

Farke’s decision to switch to a back-three last term was undoubtedly a stroke of genius, but it has also highlighted the need for added defensive reinforcements this summer.

Pascal Struijk’s deal to join Brighton has only heightened the need for new arrivals, with Sassuolo star Tarik Muharemovic seemingly the player chosen by the hierarchy.

The Whites have agreed a €40m (£34m) deal with the Serie A side for the Bosnian international - who’s already in Yorkshire to undergo his medical before signing a contract.

He featured 32 times in Italy’s top division last term and produced numerous impressive figures - many of which were higher than those of any player within Farke’s squad.

The 23-year-old made a staggering 7.1 clearances per 90 last season, with no player in the Whites’ senior ranks able to make more than 5.6 - highlighting his ability to sniff out the danger.

Muharemovic also managed to come out on top of 64% of the aerial battles he entered - a figure also higher than any defender currently on the books of Leeds.

His all-round quality at the back will no doubt make him a top-class addition for Farke’s side and one that’s only going to develop further as he adapts to the demands of the Premier League.

Why Leeds could sign their own Bellingham for £25m

After clinching a new attacker in the form of Wilson and advancing a move for Muharemovic, Leeds have shown no signs of slowing down their impressive recruitment drive.

It’s been reported in recent days that Farke’s side have once again reached out to James Trafford’s representatives over the possibility of securing a deal for the shot-stopper.

Enzo Maresca’s side are willing to allow the 23-year-old to depart the Etihad this window, but only if the current asking price of £40m for his signature is met.

He’s not the only player in the hierarchy’s sights, as TEAMtalk have reported that a deal for Southampton midfielder Shea Charles is now edging ever closer.

They claim that talks have once again been held over the last couple of days to try and reach an agreement for the midfielder who’s valued at around the £25m mark.

Such a move could prove to be yet another shrewd piece of business by the Whites - potentially landing a player who has been compared to Real Madrid superstar Jude Bellingham.

His stats from his most-recent campaign in the Championship highlight his similarities to the Englishman and why he can reach the next level in his career upon a move to Elland Road.

His tally of 6.4 ground duels won per 90 and 1.3 interceptions made per 90 both rank him in the top 20% of all midfielders in Europe for the 2025/26 season.

They also reflect his tireless nature without the ball - something which Bellingham has gained a reputation for during his time in Spain over recent seasons.

However, with the ball at his feet, Charles also managed to catch the eye, subsequently completing more dribbles than 90% of other players in England’s second tier.

Finding a teammate also hasn’t been an issue for the youngster, as he completed 86% of his attempted passes last term, whilst creating 1.2 chances per 90.

His box-to-box nature is extremely similar to that of the England international, with Charles also able to add the finishing touches to his third man runs - as seen by his tally of six goals last term.

£25m for a player of his quality could prove to be an excellent deal for Farke’s men this summer - especially if he manages to get anywhere near the levels of Bellingham throughout his career.

His all-round nature at the heart of the side could make him the perfect option at both ends of the pitch - something which is needed to allow the club to build on their survival from 2025/26.
