For all the talk about midfielders, Manchester United are still in the market for a left-back this summer, as they gear up for their return to European football.

As impressive as Luke Shaw was last time out, playing all 38 Premier League games, it's unlikely that he'll repeat that feat when Man United are forced to balance domestic football with European action.

Instead, that could be Lewis Hall's task to complete. The Newcastle left-back was unhappy at St James' Park towards the end of last season and could yet become the latest star to leave the Tyneside club this summer.

It's clear to see why Man United are interested in Hall. Under a manager who values winning possession back and hitting sides on the counter, a player who made 5.53 recoveries per 90 last season is always likely to be on their radar.

The big obstacle could simply come down to price. Previous reports claimed that Hall could be worth as much as £60m. Alas, at just 21 years old, all signs are suggesting that he'd be worth every penny.

Andy Mitten confirms Man Utd's Lewis Hall interest

Speaking on the United We Stand podcast, Andy Mitten confirmed Man United's interest in Hall this summer. The journalist also claimed that the Red Devils believe they can convince the defender to complete a move and would not be interested if they didn't think that was the case.

"United want a left-back. Cover for Luke Shaw, someone to push Luke Shaw, given that Luke Shaw may not be able to play as many games as United hope to play this season.

"United like Lewis Hall, the young left-back at Newcastle United. Manchester United would not be targeting players if they did not think they would want to come to Old Trafford." - Mitten

Swooping in and signing Premier League rivals has been part of the plan since INEOS arrived. They welcomed Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha from Brentford and Wolves last summer, and have since signed Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa and Andrey Santos from Chelsea.

Now, Hall could be the next name on the agenda. Dubbed "outstanding" by Newcastle boss Eddie Howe, the 21-year-old very much remains one to watch this summer.

Man Utd to launch Ollie Watkins move on one condition

Ollie Watkins is another example of Man United's transfer strategy. The Red Devils are reportedly set to launch a formal move for the Aston Villa striker if Joshua Zirkzee completes a move away this summer.

Those at Old Trafford could even land a bargain deal, with Villa likely to consider offers in the region of £40m. That said, a few dominoes will need to fall into place before any move can advance.
