For the first time since Aug. 1, New York Yankees infielder Anthony Volpe took swings in an MLB contest during Thursday's home game against the Colorado Rockies.

Volpe then became the Yankees' hero of the night, as he produced an RBI single and a grand slam in a dominant 10-3 win. Following the victory, Volpe shared a big admission about a return from Triple-A that may or may not be short-lived.

"I wanted to be back up here," Volpe said, per Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News. "I wanted to be helping and contributing, but when you’re down there, there’s obviously no guarantees. So you work really hard for yourself and to be the player that you feel like can help your organization. But other than that, there’s nothing guaranteed. You can’t control it, so I never thought I was going to be back here in this moment, but I wanted to be ready and prepared in case something happens."

The Yankees recalled Volpe after second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. was placed on the injured list with a right thumb sprain. Volpe's future with the organization has been uncertain ever since rookie George Lombard Jr. became the franchise's first-choice starting shortstop in early August, and Volpe has since spent time at second base and at third following his demotion. 

"Great results but good at-bats," Yankees manager Aaron Boone said about Volpe after Thursday's win, per Phillip Martinez of SNY. "Excited for him. He hasn’t done anything but continue to work and grind and got his way back here. And obviously had an impact on this game."

Volpe previously heard boos amid his struggles during games held at Yankee Stadium. On Thursday, he responded with a curtain call when fans chanted his name following his grand slam. 

"That’s why this is a special place, for sure," Volpe said about that moment. "You wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world, but still a lot of work to do."

According to Phillips, the previously mentioned Chisholm could return to the Yankees as soon as Sept. 22. Volpe acknowledged that he is "just trying to make the most of" his latest opportunity to shine with the big-league club. 

On Friday night, the 84-62 Yankees will host the 68-78 New York Mets for the opener of a three-game series in the Bronx.
