Arsenal have held talks to sign Manchester United's James Scanlon, and the attacking midfielder is keen on a move to the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners have been making some major plays in the transfer market, with former Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes perhaps their most high-profile signing to date, and Aston Villa's Ezri Konsa could be set to join him in north London.

A deal for the defender, who has been identified as one of Mikel Arteta's top transfer targets, has now been agreed, and he is set to make a move to north London for £51m.

Having already established themselves as Premier League stars, Guimaraes and Konsa could make an instant impact in north London, but prospects for the future are also being targeted, and Man United's Scanlon is among them.

The 19-year-old remains relatively inexperienced at club level, and he is yet to make a senior appearance for the Red Devils, but he scored his first senior goal on loan at Swindon Town in League Two last season.

However, the teenager is much more experienced at international level, collecting 24 caps for Gibraltar, during which time he's been on the scoresheet on five occasions.

James Scanlon keen on Arsenal move

According to a report from The Standard, Arsenal are in ongoing talks to sign Scanlon, and he is eager to complete a move to the capital, so personal terms are not expected to be an issue.

The Gunners are hoping the move will progress over the next 72 hours, having identified the Manchester United player as a serious target.

The Leicester-born attacker is capable of playing on both wings and through the middle as a number 10, but his limited senior experience means he is likely to be one for the future, rather than a player viewed as capable of pushing for a place in Arteta's starting XI immediately.

Alongside an up-and-coming prospect, Arsenal are also lining up a move for a more experienced forward, namely Juventus star Kenan Yildiz, and they could be prepared to make an offer worth £87m.

Yildiz is a major target for Arteta, having performed very well in the Serie A last season, picking up ten goals and seven assists in 36 appearances. The Turkey international also became the youngest captain in the Italian side's history last September.

The 21-year-old's primary position is left-wing, which is an area the Gunners have already strengthened this summer, signing Tzolis from Club Brugge. However, he is also capable of playing in-behind the striker, meaning he could play provider for Viktor Gyokeres.
