A week is enough time to properly see one region of the Mediterranean. It is not enough time to see three. That sounds obvious written down, yet it’s the single most common planning mistake we see — especially among first-time charter guests — arriving with a route that tries to string together four countries in seven days, and ending up spending more time transiting than anchored.

The itineraries below are the ones that actually work, tested across seasons and grouped by the part of the Mediterranean they cover. Each is fully adaptable to your dates, guest count, and yacht — think of these as proven starting points, not fixed packages.

Western Mediterranean: Corsica, Sardinia and the Balearics

The western basin rewards guests who want dramatic coastline without the crowds that build up further east in August.

7-Day Yacht Charter Itinerary from Corsica to Sardinia links two of the Mediterranean’s most underrated coastlines in a single week. Corsica’s granite calanques give way to Sardinia’s Costa Smeralda, and the crossing itself — open water, then the sudden appearance of the Maddalena archipelago — is one of the better passages on this list.

7-Day Yacht Itinerary from/to Mallorca stays within a single island group, which makes it the easiest logistics of anything here — one airport, no border crossings, and enough coastline variety (the cliffs of the northwest, the calas of the southeast) that a week rarely feels repetitive.

From Calvi to Cinque Terre: 7-Day Itinerary from Corsica to the Italian Riviera is the route to choose if Italy is non-negotiable, but you also want Corsica’s anchorages. Cinque Terre by yacht — arriving at Vernazza or Monterosso from the water rather than the train line everyone else uses — is genuinely a different experience from the one most visitors have.

Central Mediterranean: The Amalfi Coast, Sicily and the Aeolian Islands

This is the busiest stretch of coastline on this list in peak season, and also the one with the deepest bench of anchorages to escape the crowds once you know where to look.

7-Day Amalfi Coast Itinerary: Capri, Positano, Amalfi & Ischia is the reference itinerary for this coastline — the four names most people picture when they imagine chartering in Italy, sequenced so you’re never fighting the day- tripper crowds that arrive by ferry mid-morning.

One-Way Itinerary: Naples to Palermo via the Amalfi Coast & Aeolian Islands goes further. Starting in Naples and finishing in Palermo means you never retrace a mile of water, and it’s the itinerary we recommend most often to guests who’ve already done a standard Amalfi week and want the same region from a genuinely new angle — Stromboli’s active crater lit up after dark is a highlight few charters further south ever see.

Cross-Region: France to Italy, and Turkey to Greece

The strongest-performing itineraries on this site, by a clear margin, are those that connect two countries rather than stay within one. There’s a reason for that beyond novelty: a week spent moving between genuinely different cultures and coastlines simply has more to talk about at dinner than a week spent island-hopping within one archipelago.

9-Day Cannes to Naples Itinerary is our best-performing route full stop. It works because the two ends of the trip are so different — French Riviera glamour giving way to the Bay of Naples — that the itinerary never settles into a single register. Nine days is enough to actually enjoy both halves rather than rushing through either.

9-Day Itinerary from Bodrum, Turkey to the Dodecanese, Greece does the same thing at the eastern end of the Mediterranean. Turkey’s Turquoise Coast and the Greek Dodecanese sit close enough together that crossing between them mid-charter is entirely practical, and the contrast — Ottoman-era harbor towns on one side, whitewashed Greek villages on the other — is sharper than most guests expect from two countries this close together.

How to actually choose

If you’re still deciding, the honest shortcut is this: pick the region whose photograph you’d actually want on your wall, not the one with the most famous name attached. Corsica-Sardinia and the Balearics suit guests who want scenery and quiet over nightlife. Amalfi and the Aeolians suit guests who want culture, food and a bit of theatre alongside the anchorages. The cross-region routes — Cannes-Naples, Bodrum-Dodecanese — suit guests who’d rather have two distinct holidays stitched into one week than a single deep dive.

None of these are mutually exclusive with a longer trip, either. Most of the itineraries above can be extended into a 14-day route by combining two of the regions above end to end, or shortened to a long weekend if that suits your dates better — worth raising with your broker early, since it changes which yacht actually makes sense.
