The indication is that the Netherlands speedster is prioritising a move to Old Trafford this summer, following the Hammers' recent relegation, having told his agents he only wants to sign for Carrick's side.
The suggestion is that the 24-year-old will command a fee of around £50m if he is to depart this summer, albeit with Tottenham Hotspur also in the mix, as the north Londoners potentially plot another transfer hijack.
Both United and Spurs could also be in the mix for another exciting target too, with United in Focus reporting that the pair, alongside Aston Villa, are in the race for Paris Saint-Germain starlet, Ibrahim Mbaye.
It is believed that the Premier League trio are all exploring moves for the Senegalese winger, with bids of around €25m (£21m) seemingly in the works, amid the teenager's willingness for an exit.
For their part, the Champions League holders are open to offers for the 18-year-old, although they would be looking for closer to €35m (£30m) in order to sanction a sale.
Why Mbaye could be a bigger talent than Summerville
There is merit in pursuing Premier League-proven players this summer, although with that come often sky-high transfer fees, as was the case with both Anderson and Fernandes.
At some stage, United will need to take a gamble on such talents before they end up at Nottingham Forest, West Ham, Brighton etc, moving early to actually develop youngsters themselves.
That has been seen, at least, in the recent examples of Patrick Dorgu and Senne Lammens, with Mbaye hopefully set to be the next surprise success story, should he arrive for what would be a relative cut-price fee.
Now, considering he is currently on the books at PSG, the France-born forward isn't exactly an unknown quantity, but he is still waiting to truly explode, having unsurprisingly found himself behind Luis Enrique's string of elite forwards.
When the in-demand wideman has featured, however, he's certainly caught the eye, registering eight goals and assists in just 42 senior games for the Parisian outfit.
For comparison, while not exactly a young up-and-comer at 24, Summerville has scored and assisted only 15 goals in 56 games at the London Stadium, hardly the most standout return for a £50m-rated winger.
A right-footer, like Summerville, who can play on either flank, Mbaye did end the 2025/26 Ligue 1 campaign with five goals and assists to his name, a fine return considering he only actually started ten times.
He scored at a rate of one goal every 332 minutes, boasted a 13% goal conversion rate and missed only four 'big chances'. For comparison, Summerville scored once every 496 minutes last term, while recording just a 9% goal conversion after missing seven 'big chances'.
In possession too, Mbaye is impressively composed despite his relative youth, having recorded a pass accuracy rate of 86%, ahead of the Dutchman's own 83% average.
Such quality was notably seen in Senegal's World Cup opener against France, as the PSG starlet rifled in what proved to be a consolation goal late on, showcasing such a frightening turn of pace before lashing the ball home from the angle.
That finishing and dribbling prowess hasn't been seen enough yet at first-team level, although his ceiling appears to be sky-high, having been hailed as "the next Kylian Mbappe" by GOAL.
Summerville, having scored only five Premier League goals last time out, isn't necessarily a sure thing himself, with it worth taking a plunge on an even bigger attacking talent this summer.
