Injuries have forced the Toronto Blue Jays to patch their rotation together this season. A pair of reinforcements are on the way.

Keegan Matheson from MLB.com reported that pitchers Dylan Cease and Max Scherzer are set to be activated from the Injured List. Cease is scheduled to start on Tuesday, with Scherzer taking the ball on Wednesday.

Cease should be an upgrade for the Blue Jays rotation. He had been off to a strong start in 2026, posting a 3.05 ERA and a 1.210 WHiP over his 62 innings, striking out 92 batters with 26 walks. If healthy, Cease would pair with Kevin Gausman and Trey Yesavage to give the Blue Jays a formidable trio atop the rotation.

Questions remain with Blue Jays rotation even with reinforcements coming

However, it is fair to wonder what Scherzer has left. He had struggled to a 9.64 ERA and a 1.607 WHiP over his 18 innings, striking out 10 batters with eight walks. Scherzer had struggled down the stretch in 2025 as well, and at 41 years old, the end of his career is approaching quickly.

The Blue Jays do have options should Scherzer continue to struggle. Sportsnet's Ben Nicholson-Smith reported that pitcher Shane Bieber will have a rehab start on Thursday. Rule V Draft pick Spencer Miles has been a revelation as a bulk reliever and would help save the bullpen if Scherzer is unable to pitch deep into games.

The Blue Jays entered Monday with a 32-34 record and are a half-game out of a playoff berth. Getting Cease and Scherzer back should help the Blue Jays' playoff push.
