Carlos Ulberg is playing matchmaker following the events of UFC Abu Dhabi.

Ulberg, the reigning UFC Light Heavyweight Champion, witnessed ex-titleholder Ankalaev put away Bogdan Guskov in Saturday’s main event. Ulberg told the UFC on Paramount+ crew that he was confident he saw what Ankalaev brings to the table in a possible title fight. He also mentioned that he’s targeting an early 2027 return to the Octagon.

In the aftermath of UFC Abu Dhabi, Ulberg hopped on social media to suggest a marquee 205-pound clash between Ankalaev and Jiri Prochazka. He also thinks a clash between Khalil Rountree and Paulo Costa should be booked, and whoever looks most impressive of the two bouts can challenge for his gold.

🚨 Carlos Ulberg suggests the UFC books Ankalaev vs Jiri and Costa vs Rountree, and he fights the one who “earns it” 👀

“Ankalaev vs Jiri. Give them both a full camp. It’s a fight the division deserves, and stylistically it’s one the fans would love to see.

“After last night’s fight, here are my thoughts, Ankalaev vs. Jiri,” Ulberg wrote. “Give them both a full camp. It’s a fight the division deserves, and stylistically it’s one the fans would love to see. Rountree vs. Costa. That’s the wildcard. High risk. High reward. Someone’s leaving with serious momentum. By the time the dust settles, I’ll be ready. Whoever earns it. See you in 2027.”

Rountree was scheduled to meet Ankalaev this past Saturday, but an injury forced him off the card. While some believe UFC could try to rebook the matchup, a clash against Prochazka is also feasible given that both men have traded barbs through social media and interviews. Costa has also been seeking a big fight at light heavyweight, and a name like Rountree could fit the bill.

Ulberg will be sidelined for the remainder of 2026 as he is recovering from a torn ACL. “Black Jag” suffered the injury during his title win over Prochazka at UFC 327 in Miami. Ulberg’s time away from the Octagon will allow someone to step up and become the clear No. 1 contender at 205 pounds.

What do you make of Carlos Ulberg’s fight suggestions? Would you be down to see Magomed Ankalaev vs. Jiri Prochazka and Khalil Rountree vs. Paulo Costa? Drop your opinion in the comments below.
