Ryan believes those final pounds are often the hardest part of making weight.

“He seems like a pretty big guy. It’s just the fact that he went to 160 and now he’s gonna shoot all the way down to 147. He did it once with Regis at 150, but those three pounds when you’re cutting weight is much more than you think. That may play a part. I want him at his strongest but I’m just saying. I think he’s gonna struggle with making weight. Maybe he won’t, maybe he will,” said Ryan on Mr. Verzace’s channel.

Benn boxed Chris Eubank Jr. twice at middleweight before returning to face Regis Prograis at a 150-pound catchweight in April. Prior to that, he faced Peter Dobson at 151 pounds plus Rodolfo Orozco at 154.

Benn has never hidden the difficulty of returning to welterweight. He recently revealed that his walking weight has remained far above the division limit during the past few years.

“I’ve been walking around at 175- 180 pounds for the past three years. I had six weeks to make 150; I did it. You know why I did it? Because I’m disciplined. Is getting down to 147 gonna be grueling? Is it gonna be tough? Is it gonna be hard? Of course it is, but I live for that,” said Benn to The Ring. “I ain’t no softie over here. I work hard, I train hard. The discipline will continue to prevail, and that’s why I will make 147, and that’s why I will take that belt home.”

Ryan believes those final pounds are often the most demanding part of a weight cut. Benn insists discipline will carry him back to the welterweight limit. Their fight on September 12 will reveal whether the weight cut becomes a factor once the action begins.
