Newly signed UFC welterweight Ronald Humphrey, who earned his spot in the promotion with a first-round submission victory over Alexis Miranda on Dana White’s Contender Series Season 10, Week 3 last month, has expressed his candid views on who he believes are the top fighters in MMA.

Humphrey’s comments caught the attention of Conor McGregor, who has now reacted.

The 25-year-old undefeated knockout artist, following his DWCS win, appeared on The Ariel Helwani Show, where he spoke about his big plans. Humphrey opined he is not in the UFC to just be a “pretty good” fighter. He wants to be a “really good” one. As for who he considers the best, he added:

“Really good is really hard to get. You’ve got [Jon] Jones, Conor [McGregor], and Demetrious Johnson. Other than that, everybody’s average.”

Next up, while sending a warning to the top 10 welterweight contenders and champion Islam Makhachev, Humphrey added:

“I would be damned if imma die average. Islam [Makhachev] is pretty good, but pretty good isn’t exceptional, and I’m gonna be exceptional. I think the top 10 dudes are good. But they are not exceptional… Just wait, give me some time, let me correct my skills, and let me find what I got. It’s a wrap for these dudes, bro. It’s a wrap.”

4 of Ronald Humphrey’s 5 professional MMA wins have come by knockout, with all four of those stoppages coming in the first round. His most recent victory, however, came by way of a first-round submission against Alexis Miranda. Humphrey first bloodied up Miranda before securing a rear-naked choke at 4:03 to impress Dana White and earn a UFC contract.

He’s an entertainer and a finisher, and it will be interesting to see if he can back up all the talk and match his own definition of a “really good” UFC fighter.
