Charlie is an experienced football journalist at Football FanCast, specialising in Premier League reporting and transfer analysis.

He joined the company while studying at UCFB's Etihad Campus and, after graduating in 2019, has held full-time editorial roles across the Read Network, The Transfer Tavern and Football FanCast.

As both a writer and editor, Charlie has covered football extensively across England and Scotland, developing a broad understanding of the game at every level. He regularly attends matches in person, reporting from grounds across the English Football League and covering fixtures from the press box, giving him first-hand insight into the clubs and competitions he writes about.

Charlie's expertise lies in assessing the credibility of transfer stories, analysing what they mean for clubs and supporters, and providing context behind football's biggest talking points. Through years of covering clubs in the Midlands and North of England such as Aston Villa and Leeds United, he has developed an extensive understanding of their recruitment strategies, playing styles and the issues that matter most to supporters. His reporting is strengthened by an established network of sources across the football industry.

Away from his writing duties, Charlie has a particular passion for following the English Football League and enjoys covering the game from the touchline whenever possible.

Crystal Palace's summer transfer window has been fairly quiet so far, however, the Eagles now look ready to splash the cash on a £40m+ midfielder.

Those at Selhurst Park are yet to spend on a player, with Oscar Mingueza and Takehiro Tomiyasu arriving on free transfers as the club's only senior additions.

With two defenders secured, attention is now on reinforcing Palace's midfield ahead of the Premier League opener.

Midfielder

Role

Crystal Palace's midfield options

Adam Wharton

Defensive Midfielder

Palace's standout midfielder and arguably the heartbeat of the team.

Cheick Doucoure

Defensive Midfielder

A ball-winning midfielder who provides physicality and protection in front of the back four.

Jefferson Lerma

Defensive Midfielder

Brings experience, aggression and versatility.

David Ozoh

Defensive Midfielder

An academy graduate with plenty of potential.

Will Hughes

Central Midfielder

A reliable squad option whose work rate, pressing and passing make him a solid option off the bench.

Daichi Kamada

Attacking Midfielder

One of Palace's most creative central options, thriving between the lines.

Justin Devenny

Attacking Midfielder

One of the club's brightest young prospects, offering energy and late runs into the box.

Matheus Franca

Attacking Midfielder

A technically gifted playmaker who is still looking to establish himself.

Following Maxence Lacroix's big-money move to Chelsea, Palace should have fresh funds available to reinvest, and it appears sporting director Matt Hobbs has made a move in the market.

Crystal Palace make offer for Lamine Camara

According to reporter Seb Nonda, Crystal Palace have now "made an offer" to sign AS Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara for new boss Pierre Sage.

The journalist doesn’t reveal how much the offer is worth, however, the Senegal international is valued at more than £40m, underlining just how ambitious the move would be if Palace can convince Monaco to sell.

While negotiations appear to be at an early stage, Palace are the first to bid with top flight rivals Liverpool, Nottingham Forest and Manchester United also credited with an interest.

Camara, still only 22, has been establishing himself as one of Europe's most complete young midfielders. Comfortable operating as either a holding midfielder or box-to-box player, he combines relentless energy with excellent defensive awareness and the technical quality to control possession.

Camara came through the renowned Generation Foot academy in Senegal before earning a move to FC Metz, where his performances quickly attracted attention across Europe.

After impressing in Ligue 1, he secured a €15m transfer to AS Monaco, where he has continued his development into one of France's standout young midfielders.

He has also become a regular for the Senegal national team and registered one assist in four appearances at the 2026 World Cup. One of Camara's standout performances at club level came against Paris Saint-Germain earlier this year though, winning Monaco’s Man of the Match award.

Against the European champions, Camara impressed with his pressing, ball recoveries, passing range and willingness to drive forward, with former boss Sebastien Pocognoli labelling him as a player with “enormous potential”.

Therefore, if Palace can turn their opening proposal into a sealed deal, they may not only be making their first major investment of the summer - they could also be landing one of the most exciting midfield talents around, making this one to watch.
