It's been a wild first summer for Enzo Maresca at Manchester City. The Italian has seen a major overhaul throughout the squad, with Savinho, Marmoush, Rodri and others all leaving and the likes of Ayyoub Bouaddi and Elliot Anderson arriving.

In many ways, it's fitting that there has been so much change to usher in a new era in the absence of Pep Guardiola. If Maresca was to ever stamp his mark on this side, then he needed the backing of sporting director Hugo Viana. He has got exactly that all summer long.

The Man City chief has been attempting to spend big all week as the deadline has approached. At one stage, it looked as though Cody Gakpo was destined for Manchester, before Liverpool rejected a £75m attempt and decided to keep hold of the Dutchman.

Since then, the focus has been clear. Welcome an attacker and a midfield and it will be job done. On the attacking front, Iliman Ndiaye is the name who looks most likely to arrive.

City have reportedly hijacked Tottenham Hotspur's move and are set to sign Ndiaye for around £60m whilst also sending Jack Grealish back on loan to the Toffees.

On the midfield front, meanwhile, Viana is saving his biggest deal for last. In one final gift to his new manager, the sporting director has turned his focus towards Chelsea's Enzo Fernandez.

A reunion has been on the cards all summer and Chelsea fans made their feelings about the midfielder clear in their recent trip to face Fulham on the opening day of the campaign. Whether Fernandez liked it or not, he had no place left in West London.

Man City reach agreement to sign Fernandez

Whilst the deal has still not been cheap or easy, all roads always led to the Eithad. Now, according to The Athletic's David Ornstein, Man City have reached an agreement to sign Fernandez in a move worth a stunning £125m.

It matches the British record set by Alexander Isak and Liverpool last season, whilst completing Maresca's midfield rebuild.

The Italian is certainly a fan of the Argentine international too. During their time at Chelsea together, Maresca told reporters when asked about Fernandez: "He behaved as a leader and he is doing top, fantastic.

"For sure Enzo has taken a step forward in that sense. He is showing how good a leader he is, how good he is on the ball, how good he is off the ball and we are delighted with him."

The box-crashing star will now complete a new-look midfield for City, featuring Anderson and Bouaddi. It has been sensational recruitment, which truly represents the start of a new era.
