A showdown between Moses Itauma and Daniel Dubois is one that is becoming craved amongst boxing fans, and now fan-favourite veteran Derek Chisora has altered his prediction for their potential meeting. 

Itauma has quickly climbed the heavyweight rankings and he now finds himself on the verge of a world title shot, having been ordered to fight for the vacant IBF heavyweight world title against Frank Sanchez.

However, it is believed that the youngster would need a rapid turnaround from his upcoming August clash with Filip Hrgovic in order to accept that opportunity, meaning he may instead choose to pursue other routes to the heavyweight crown. 

One of those options is a bid for the WBO strap, with Itauma currently being positioned as the mandatory challenger and signed to the same promoter as champion Dubois, who is expected to rematch Fabio Wardley before the end of 2026.

As a result, their timelines could align for an intriguing scrap in early 2027, but speaking after Dubois’ knockout of Wardley to claim the belt back in May, Chisora picked ‘Triple D’ as the favourite.

“Right now, with the odds, the favourite is Daniel, he is the world champion. So, I think Daniel [will win], but we know Itauma and how he is.”

Two months on and Chisora has changed his mind, telling Seconds Out that he now favours the 21-year-old, largely due to the fact that he is a southpaw.

“Can I be honest, you just gave me a very tough question there because both fighters are great fighters.

“I have to go with Moses and tell you why, because he is a southpaw. Southpaws are hard to beat, bro. When you shape-up, he is already got a reach on you with his jab and then, by the time he lands the jab, there is a quick one-two.” 

Dubois has struggled in his last three match-ups against southpaws, with South Africa’s Kevin Lerena providing him with a scare back in 2022, before two stoppage defeats to Oleksandr Usyk.
