Graeme Sharp certainly knew where the back of the net was, with the former striker scoring a whopping 148 goals in 425 appearances for Everton, and he has now suggested David Moyes needs to strengthen his forward line in the summer transfer window.

There have been calls for the Toffees to sign an upgrade on Thierno Barry, with the Frenchman scoring just eight Premier League goals, despite featuring in all 38 matches during his campaign in England.

Beto fared slightly better, bagging nine goals in 37 Premier League appearances, but Moyes' side remain keen on signing a new forward, and they are now plotting a raid on Arsenal.

Everton now in contention to sign "really special" Arsenal star

According to a report from Football Insider, Everton are now keen on signing Gabriel Jesus, but the Gunners' price tag has quadrupled to at least £20m, after setting an asking price of just £5m near the end of May.

Jesus' persistent injury problems are viewed as an issue by Moyes' side, which is why they aren't willing to meet the north Londoners' asking price, and they are only willing to pursue a move if a cut-price deal becomes possible.

The 29-year-old has only played a limited role for Mikel Arteta's side over the past two seasons, predominantly due to an ACL injury, which caused him to be sidelined for 46 matches.

The Brazilian recovered in time to play a role in the Gunners' Premier League title triumph, and he received plaudits from Arteta back in December, with the former Everton midfielder saying: "Gabby has a really special quality where he suddenly connects everybody around him and that's something that we as a team need and it will make us better."

That said, Jesus would perhaps be a risky signing for the Toffees, in light of his injury record, and the fact he hasn't exactly set the world alight in front of goal since joining Arsenal from Manchester City.
