Tottenham have finally secured Savinho, and this feels like far more than another expensive addition to Roberto De Zerbi’s squad.

The Brazilian has arrived from Man City in a deal worth an initial £75 million, with a further £10 million potentially following through add-ons, and it makes him City’s record sale whilst taking Tottenham’s summer spending beyond £300 million.

That is a huge commitment for a 22-year-old who is still developing and has struggled at City, yet Tottenham are determined to buy the attacking quality their opening weekend defeat at Brentford showed they badly needed.

Spurs had plenty of possession during that miserable 3-0 loss but repeatedly failed to turn it into danger, failing to register a single shot on target during the first half, while Mikey Moore provided most of their brighter moments after the break.

Savinho should immediately make that forward line less predictable.

He is prepared to remain wide, receive the ball under pressure and attack his full back without waiting for an overlapping run. De Zerbi’s football is based on drawing teams towards the ball before exploiting the gaps they leave behind, so the Brazilian should slot right in.

Savinho has the speed to punish players and the courage to keep demanding possession, but the challenge will be turning his exciting approach play into consistent goals and assists.

Tottenham have paid for potential rather than the finished product, but De Zerbi clearly believes he can unlock it. The head coach reportedly spoke to Sávio during negotiations, helping convince him that north London was the right destination.

Insider Paul O'Keefe also said that De Zerbi is privately 'buzzing' about Savinho's arrival, and is 'beyond convinced' that the attacker will 'explode' at Tottenham.

Tottenham have confirmed that Savinho will wear the No.17 shirt, and the winger has also explained through the club’s official channels that De Zerbi’s involvement was central to his decision to join the Lilywhites.

Attention has now turned towards Omar Marmoush and why his proposed move from City has not yet been completed.

Fabrizio Romano has provided important context on the apparent delay.

The journalist says Savinho's transfer was agreed on Friday evening, before the Brazilian travelled to London on Saturday. His arrival was not formally announced until Tuesday, showing how several days can pass between an agreement and official confirmation.

According to Romano, Marmoush received preliminary clearance to undergo his medical on Monday after reaching a verbal agreement.

Tottenham and City, however, are still waiting to exchange the necessary documentation, so Marmoush is now simply 'waiting' to seal his move to the capital.

That means the transfer cannot yet be considered complete, but the update doesn't suggest that talks have collapsed or that either party has changed its position.

It appears to be a paperwork issue rather than a fresh dispute over money.

Marmoush would also be a very different addition to Savinho. While the Brazilian can stretch a defence from the touchline, the Egyptian is most dangerous when moving infield, attacking spaces between centre backs or running beyond the main striker.

Signing both would give De Zerbi the option to build a far more fluid attack.

The wait will naturally frustrate supporters, but Savinho’s own four-day journey from agreement to announcement offers the clearest reason not to panic.
