Floyd Schofield Jr. may finally be closing in on the opportunity he has chased for years.

Schofield’s long-awaited title opportunity could be nearing reality. BoxingScene reported that discussions are underway for a bout with Davis, with both sides attempting to finalize terms before a June 22 deadline.

Schofield’s father and trainer, Floyd Schofield Sr., believes the matchup is within reach.

“It’s a huge fight for Floyd Jr. He’s obviously looking sharp.

“It’s a dangerous matchup, but we feel good. We’ve worked our behind off from being homeless to get to this, and ‘Kid’ holds two WBA titles already. So, you know, it’s just the next step to see on our road of greatness.”

The elder Schofield also dismissed any concerns about Davis returning from a lengthy layoff. Davis has not fought since his controversial majority draw with Lamont Roach Jr. in March 2025, but Schofield Sr. expects the Baltimore star to be at his best.

“We know he’s stayed in the gym.

“‘Tank’ is doing everything like he had a fight coming up already. ‘Tank’ is still a dangerous fighter. It’s going to be one hell of a fight, a great fight for the fans.”

Schofield Jr. enters the negotiations with a perfect 19-0 record, including 13 knockouts. The 23-year-old has not fought since stopping former world champion Tevin Farmer in June 2025, a victory that secured his position as the WBA’s No. 1 contender at lightweight.

Davis, a former three-division world champion, owns a record of 30-0-1 with 28 knockouts and remains one of boxing’s biggest attractions despite his extended absence from the ring.

“We want the fight, and we’re going to win the fight,” said Schofield Sr.

The two sides have until June 22 to reach an agreement. If no deal is finalized by then, the WBA could order a purse bid to determine promotional rights for the bout.
