Tommy Fury could be about to take on a former world heavyweight champion in his next fight.

After making his professional debut back in 2018, Fury has gone down the influencer boxing route in recent times, having two notable fights against Jake Paul and KSI in 2023, before a clash with former World’s Strongest Man Eddie Hall earlier this year.

The 27-year-old may now be turning his attention to a well known name, after former WBO heavyweight champion Shannon Briggs posted on social media to claim he is in negotiations to take on Fury.

“Just got off the phone. Negotiating a fight with Tommy Fury. All I can say is, Tommy don’t get scared now. Tell your daddy and your big brother I’m coming for you. You first, daddy second, other one third. Let’s go Tommy. Let’s go champ.”

Briggs won the WBO heavyweight title back in 2006 after a 12th round TKO over Siarhei Liakhovich, but lost it in his next outing against Sultan Ibragimov seven months later.

He also had a spell as the lineal heavyweight champion when he claimed a majority decision win over George Foreman in November 1997, before losing that status in March 1998 when he was defeated by WBC heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis via fifth round stoppage.

It’s been over a decade since Briggs last competed with his most recent bout coming in May 2016, and he has teased a number of fights over the last few years, so it remains to be seen whether or not the 54-year-old will indeed step into the ring with Fury.
