Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayFormer two-weight world champion Jermall Charlo has been denied an Australian visa, meaning he will no longer feature on the undercard of Errol Spence Jr vs Tim Tszyu.
The 36-year-old was supposed to face Koen Mazoudier at Sydney’s Afterpay Arena on July 25, hoping to establish himself as a genuine super-middleweight contender.
His opponent, however, was hardly likely to facilitate that plan, given that Mazoudier has always fought at 154lbs and remains several tiers below world level.
But still, Charlo was determined to at least blow off some cobwebs after having not fought since his ring return against Thomas LaManna in May 2025.
It ultimately proved a successful comeback, resulting in a sixth-round stoppage, even with the ‘Hit Man’ having incurred a year-and-a-half of inactivity.
But now, the American must remain out the ring for a short while longer, at least until Al Haymon’s PBC finds him a new date and location.
Taking to Instagram late last night, Charlo expressed his frustration with being denied entry into Australia.
“Unfortunately, I will not be able to fight next Saturday. I’ve been training nonstop for the last three months and was ready to make a statement. I want to apologise to all my fans and let them know I will keep training and be back on a PBC event very soon.”
While Charlo has been removed from the card, another former two-weight world champion in the form of Stephen Fulton has seemingly kept his place.
The 32-year-old will in fact be facing Liam Wilson, a solid super-featherweight contender who is perhaps best known for his defeats to Emanuel Navarrete and Oscar Valdez.
