While the New York Mets won two of three games over the Philadelphia Phillies from Thursday through Sunday, those victories merely improved the last-place Mets to 42-58 on what seems to be a lost season for New York. 

The Mets almost certainly will be sellers ahead of the Aug. 3 MLB trade deadline, and multiple reports have indicated that team president of baseball operations David Stearns is open to hearing offers for fan-favorite shortstop Francisco Lindor. On Sunday, Lindor addressed being the subject of trade rumors this summer.

"It doesn’t bother me when it’s coming from outside sources," Lindor insisted, per Chelsea Janes of SNY. "When it’s more inside, that would bother me. But that’s not happening. I try to stay away from it. I try not to read it or really talk about it. It’s just unnecessary distraction. But I am human. I have a family, and they all talk, and they all hear it. But since it’s not happening in here, it’s okay." 

Lindor signed a 10-year contract extension worth up to $341M shortly before the start of the 2021 season, and Mets owner Steve Cohen strongly suggested earlier this summer that he plans to hold onto the 32-year-old through at least the end of the 2026 campaign. That said, a recent update revealed that "rival executives believe that the Mets will trade shortstop Francisco Lindor this winter – not at the trade deadline."

"Do I get frustrated at times? Of course," Lindor said on Sunday. "Some people eventually get tired of he-said, she-said type stuff and go different routes. Some people get tired of playing the game and retire. Every water will go back to its natural level. I’m just blessed to be doing it. I’ll continue to be me. I’m Francisco Lindor wherever I go."

Lindor missed roughly two months of action this season because of a calf injury, and he has routinely disappointed with his play when healthy. Across his first 43 games of the ongoing campaign, Lindor hit just .220 with six home runs and 15 RBI.

Regardless of what the two players say, questions about the relationship between Lindor and star outfielder Juan Soto will likely hover over the Mets into the fall. It remains to be seen whether or not Cohen will ultimately determine that Lindor and Soto can't co-exist on the same roster. 

"People are entitled to their own opinions, and I respect it," Lindor added. "They have their own perspective, their own lens from their life. At some point or other, we all judge sometimes, for better or worse. Do I agree with things everybody says? No. Am I gonna be liked by everybody? No. That’s something I’ve learned in New York. You start to understand that you’re not gonna be liked by everybody. You can’t be a people pleaser. You have to think, I have a job. I have to get it done."

That's all well and good, but there seems to be some chance that Lindor will have a job with a team other than the Mets at this time next year.
