Fulham are keen on signing RC Strasbourg winger Martial Godo, who is also being targeted by Premier League and London rivals Chelsea.

The Cottagers made a statement signing at left-wing last summer, bringing in Kevin from Shakhtar Donetsk, but the Brazilian didn't enjoy the best of debut campaigns, picking up just one goal and two assists in 26 Premier League matches.

Godo, on the other hand, was a constant threat for Strasbourg domestically and in the Europa Conference League last season, amassing 16 goals and six assists in 44 matches across all competitions.

In fact, the Strasbourg star averaged 0.57 goals per 90 in Ligue 1. For reference, Raul Jimenez was Fulham's best performer on that metric, averaging 0.37 goals per 90 in the Premier League.

Martial Godo's other Ligue 1 stats

  • 1,587 minutes played
  • 10 goals
  • 2 assists
  • 1.0 shots on target per 90
  • 8 big chances missed

The former Fulham man was lauded as an "incredibly talented footballer" by journalist Dylan McBennett in late 2024, but he has clearly really kicked on since leaving Craven Cottage.

Fulham aiming to re-sign Martial Godo

According to a report from Africa Foot (via Sport Witness), Fulham are now determined to re-sign Godo, and beat rival suitors Coventry City and Chelsea to his signature.

Of course, BlueCo own Strasbourg and Chelsea, which suggests a deal will be easy to facilitate if they hone in on the left-winger, but the Cottagers want to make sure that doesn't happen.

In order to win the race, plans are in place to offer the Strasbourg star a key role in Alvaro Arbeloa's project.

Impact

With Kevin underperforming last season, it would make sense for Fulham to sign an upgrade this summer. Liverpool are said to be keen on signing Kevin, and should they get a deal done, it would exacerbate the need to sign a new left-winger.

It is currently unclear what sort of fee Strasbourg would be looking for. However, back in April, it was suggested they could demand as much as £44m, which would make the Ligue 1 star an expensive addition to Arbeloa's squad.

The Ivory Coast star may be worthy of a transfer fee in that ballpark, given his exploits with Strasbourg. 12 goal involvements in his debut Ligue 1 campaign was the second-highest number in the Strasbourg squad. Back in March, the 23-year-old caught the eye in his first game for the Ivory Coast, scoring and assisting in a 4-0 victory against South Korea.

Not only is Godo capable of playing on the left, where he could replace Kevin, but he can also be deployed on the right, where he could challenge Oscar Bobb for a starting spot.

Fulham also in the race to sign La Liga winger

Fulham certainly aren't short of targets at left-wing, having also entered the race to sign Sevilla star Joaquin Oso, who picked up two goals and three assists in La Liga last season.

Nottingham Forest have also made an approach to sign the 23-year-old though, so the Cottagers may have to move swiftly if they are going to secure his signature.
