Leeds United continued their impressive start to the Premier League campaign with an emphatic 4-1 victory over Newcastle United at Elland Road on Monday night.

An own goal from Lewis Miley and strikes from Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Noah Okafor, and Jayden Bogle secured all three points for the home side, who were 3-0 up before half-time.

The comfortable scoreline for the hosts was not enough to tempt Daniel Farke into handing a debut to deadline day signing Jean-Matteo Bahoya, though, as he was one of only two outfield substitutes not to be called upon.

It is hard to argue with the German head coach's decision-making on the night for the West Yorkshire outfit, though, as he masterminded a terrific result against the Magpies.

How Leeds totally dominated Newcastle

Newcastle played into Leeds' hands with the way that they set up as they attempted to play longer balls up to Yoane Wissa, who was rarely the favourite against James Justin, Nico Elvedi, or Tarik Muharemovic.

The 5 foot 9 centre-forward is not a physically imposing striker who was likely to hold the ball up and cause the Whites centre-backs problems physically, which is why it was not a surprise to see him lose eight of his ten ground duels and five of his seven aerial duels.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin, meanwhile, looked like prime Mark Viduka up front for the hosts with his physicality, winning four of his eight duels, including three of his four aerial battles.

The difference in strikers on the pitch for the two teams meant that the home team were able to control and dominate the match as they were able to keep hold of possession when they had to go longer, rather than seeing the ball constantly coming back at them.

Calvert-Lewin provided his teammates with a platform to build from with the outlet that he offered in the number nine role, and one of his teammates built something very special.

Leeds star looked like prime Raphinha against Newcastle

In the 4-1 win over the Magpies on Monday night, a Leeds star put in a performance that prime Raphinha, who is now starring for Barcelona, would have been proud of.

The Brazil international, who scored 17 goals in 67 games for the Whites, regularly produced the spectacular for the club, and that is exactly what Okafor delivered against Newcastle.

Farke opted to go with Okafor in the left-sided number ten role, with Anton Stach on the right and Calvert-Lewin in the middle, and he justified his inclusion with an excellent display.

The former AC Milan star was incredibly unfortunate not to be awarded an assist for the opening goal of the night, as he found Ao Tanaka in space on the edge of the box, only for the midfielder's shot to take a double deflection and go down as an own goal.

Okafor did eventually get the goal contribution that his performance deserved, though, when he brilliantly met the ball on the half-volley on his weaker left foot to make it 4-0 in the second half.

Just as he did at Old Trafford against Manchester United in the Premier League last season, the Switzerland international showed off his exceptional finishing technique.

It was a finish that Raphinha would have been proud of, due to the difficulty of the chance and the quality of the strike, and that was not the only impressive aspect of his display.

Okafor also attempted four dribbles, as he constantly looked to beat his man on the outside and the inside, and completed 13 carries in 72 minutes on the pitch.

What Farke may be most pleased with, though, was that he won six duels and 100% (2/2) of his tackles for the team, which shows that he destroyed the Magpies with his play both in and out of possession on the night.

Like Raphinha, who had the work rate to go with his exceptional quality on the ball, Okafor is an important player for the Whites because he combines hard work, technical ability, and contributions in the final third.

Leeds will now be hoping that the Swiss star continues to deliver in all phases of play for the rest of the Premier League campaign, as they aim for a successful second season in the top-flight.
