The Charlotte Hornets announced the signing of guard Jarkel Joiner on Saturday, September 26, adding another backcourt option as the team continues to finalize its roster for the 2026-27 season.

Joiner, 27, has spent the majority of his professional career in the G League after playing college basketball at Ole Miss and NC State. He most recently played for the Raptors 905 during the 2025-26 season, averaging 10.9 points, 3.6 assists and 2.4 rebounds in 49 games.

The 6-foot guard shot 44.6% from the field, 35.6% from three-point range and 82.0% from the free-throw line for Raptors 905. He averaged 23.7 minutes per game while also recording 0.8 steals and 1.2 turnovers.

Joiner previously played for the Cleveland Charge in the G League. During the 2024-25 season, he averaged 11.2 points, 3.4 assists and 3.1 rebounds in 48 games while shooting 33.2% from three-point range.

His best G League scoring season came in 2024-25, while his playmaking numbers have remained consistent throughout his time in the league. In 2023-24, Joiner averaged 9.9 points and 4.0 assists in 46 games for Cleveland.

Joiner played three seasons in college, beginning at Ole Miss before transferring to NC State. As a senior in 2022-23, he averaged 17.0 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.6 assists in 34 games for the Wolfpack, shooting 42.8% from the field and 35.4% from three.

Across 84 college games, Joiner averaged 14.3 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.6 assists while shooting 41.2% from the field and 32.8% from three-point range.

The signing comes as Charlotte continues to reshape its backcourt. The Hornets traded LaMelo Ball to Minnesota earlier in the offseason and later acquired Dennis Schroder, while Coby White was re-signed to a three-year, $74 million contract.

Charlotte also recently traded Buddy Hield to the Chicago Bulls for Rob Dillingham after acquiring Hield from Atlanta alongside Ryan Nembhard.
