Manchester United supporters have no doubt been craving success over recent years, to end their once unimaginable 13-year wait for a Premier League title.

No manager has achieved such a feat since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2012/13, but Michael Carrick will be hoping that he can be the man to emulate the Scotsman’s success.

The 45-year-old demonstrated last term that he’s capable of getting crucial results in England’s top-flight, subsequently losing just two games out of 17 after replacing Ruben Amorim.

However, if the former Red Devils player is to be a long-term success in the dugout, he will need one player to step up to the plate and provide the goods in attacking areas once again.

How Sesko compared to other Premier League strikers in 2025/26

Last summer, United were crying out for added attacking reinforcements, resulting in INEOS splashing over £200m on Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko.

The latter was brought in to Old Trafford to play at the top end of the attack, with the hope that the Slovenian international could be the club’s long-term solution to their number nine woes.

He cost a reported £74m from Bundesliga side RB Leipzig, but did the 23-year-old show glimpses of being worth the mammoth fee during his debut campaign?

Sesko registered 11 goals in England’s top-flight last term, and ended the season as United’s joint top-scorer - with only seven more strikers in the division netting more goals.

He offered a constant threat, mainly during Carrick’s tenure, subsequently registering 1.9 shots on target per 90 - the most of any player at Old Trafford and placing him above 95% of players in the Premier League.

Arguably his biggest asset in 2025/26 was his tremendous aerial ability, which often saw the Slovenian youngster dominate the opposition in attacking areas.

He subsequently won 53% of the battles he entered in the air, which, like his shooting ability, saw him better 93% of other players in his position throughout England’s top-flight.

Man Utd looking to sign a Sesko upgrade this summer

Despite the impact of Sesko at United last campaign, INEOS and Carrick appear to be having ambitions plans to further improve the club’s attacking department.

Joshua Zirkzee appears to be edging closer to the exit door at Old Trafford, which undoubtedly means added reinforcements are needed in such a department.

However, the proposed move for Galatasaray star Victor Osimhen could see the Slovenian talent move further down the pecking order throughout the 2026/27 campaign.

CaughtOffside have provided the latest on the potential deal and claimed that United have been monitoring the Nigerian’s progress ahead of a potential move.

They also claim the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea are considering the 27-year-old, who could be available for a fee in the region of £65m this summer.

It’s certainly not the first time the Red Devils have been credited with an interest in Osimhen, but it remains to be seen how quickly the hierarchy act to secure his signature this window.

He’s a player who’s constantly provided the goods across Europe, subsequently registering double figures for goals in each of the last eight seasons in succession.

Sesko has been unable to match such a tally in recent times, but the pair’s respective stats from last season only reaffirm why the Nigerian would be an upgrade on the Slovenian.

Osimhen managed to net four more league goals in nine fewer matches, whilst also registering more shots on target per 90 - with his tally ranking him in the top 3% of forwards across the continent.

He also managed to match the current United centre-forward for aerials won, which could see him easily emulate the impact of the 23-year-old upon any move to Old Trafford.

However, the biggest selling point for a move to sign the Galatasaray star is his success on the European stage, as he has managed to provide constant goals in the Champions League.

He’s netted 14 goals in his last 22 outings in such a competition, whilst Sesko has only managed to achieve 50% of the tally despite featuring in more European outings - backing up Peter Etebo's claim that he's "one of the best strikers in the world."

£65m for the attacker’s signature could prove to be an excellent piece of business for United and one that could see them finally land a long-standing transfer target.

Galatasaray's Victor Osimhen reacts

As for Sesko, he will likely have to play second fiddle to the 27-year-old, but it could prove to be a blessing in disguise, with the youngster able to learn from the Nigerian and improve his own game.
