This award-winning running shoe is designed for hard-ground trail running while also offering room for foot splay and both comfort and flexibility underfoot. Who and what is the INOV8 Trailfly v2 for?
They’re designed for runners who run on hard ground out on the trails. They’re comfy enough for longer miles, but agile enough to be nippy on shorter distances too.
How do they fit?
Superlative fit as usual for me from INOV8: 100% true to size in a 5.5. They fit a bit wider than normal brands (they call it NaturalFit) and allow plenty of toe splay which is great for balance on uneven trails. The fit is just as good in this V2 model as the OG.
Are the Trailfly v2 comfortable?
Super comfy. The wide toe box suits me (comes in normal or wide fit), and the moderately plush tongue and padding on heel and collar add to the comfort. For me, flexibility is key to comfort and performance on the trails. Top marks for these shoes on that score too. You can really move in these.

INOV8 Trailfly v2 run test
I’ve found them to be excellent for this summer’s trail running. Through the dry months, the ground has been hard packed and potentially skiddy. These have seen me right on many gravel and hard mud trails. INOV8 shoes allow for natural foot movement that builds strength in your foot over time. I can’t categorically say that my feet have got stronger yet, but I’m getting more passionate about things like that as I age, so am happy to go with it.
In terms of stack height, it’s mid-range. Again, that’s perfect for me. They offer more comfort than the Trailfly Speed over longer distances, but still a pleasing amount of ground feel and agility. Talking of agility, that’s where I feel the most difference from v1. INOV8 has removed the rock plate which has made the shoe much more flexible – which I love! I’m sorry (not sorry) that I’ve only tested these on dry ground over the long hot summer months. But I’m confident the 4mm lugs will do the job when the rains finally come.
Should I buy them?
I think they’re a fabulous all-rounder trail shoe, and a bargain to boot.
