Jeffrey Herlings won the second race of the French MXGP in Lacapelle-Marival. The race initially saw a red flag situation after Tom Vialle crashed in the opening corner during the first start. Fortunately, the Frenchman was able to walk away on his own, but he was not allowed to take part in the restart.

Just as the engines had already been fired up for the restart, the riders were suddenly instructed to switch them off again and Tim Gajser was removed from the starting gate. The Slovenian had changed motorcycles after his bike was damaged in the crash with Vialle, but he returned too late.

When the race finally got underway, Jeffrey Herlings immediately took the lead and, despite pressure from Lucas Coenen, never gave it up. Behind Herlings and Coenen, reigning World Champion Romain Febvre finished third ahead of Maxime Renaux and Kay de Wolf. Calvin Vlaanderen finished the race in 15th place. For the Belgian riders, Jago Geerts claimed 13th place while Brent Van doninck finished 17th.

A 2-1 score in the races meant the Dutch national anthem was played for Jeffrey Herlings. Lucas Coenen finished second overall (2-1), while Romain Febvre took third place in front of his home crowd.

In the MXGP World Championship standings, Jeffrey Herlings has closed the gap to just two points behind Lucas Coenen after this weekend.
