Jon Jones may be an all-time great, but missing out on the UFC Freedom 250 card is something he wishes wouldn’t have happened.
Jones had been flirting with retirement since his late 2024 heavyweight title defense against Stipe Miocic. “Bones” won the bout via third-round TKO, but he never fought Tom Aspinall, who was the interim champion at the time. Soon, Aspinall would be out of the picture due to eye issues stemming from an Oct. 2025 clash with Ciryl Gane.
“Bones” pounded the table for a spot on the historic White House card, but UFC CEO Dana White publicly said he couldn’t trust the MMA GOAT. During a chat with The Schmo to promote the opening of Prince Street Pizza in Baton Rouge, Jones admitted that he still thinks about not being able to fight at UFC Freedom 250 (via MMAFighting).
“There was the White House card,” Jones said. “That was one of the few nights in my career where I just was thinking, ‘I should have been there.’ I usually don’t regret decisions, but that was one of my big regrets in life, not being a part of the White House. But if I never fight again, I think I’m pretty damn happy.”
Jones still hasn’t completely ruled out a return to fighting, but he also mentioned in the interview that he thinks the aforementioned Miocic fight was his last moment inside the Octagon. “Bones” has shifted his attention to mentoring Olympic gold medalist Gable Steveson. While Steveson got off to a quick 4-0 start with all of those wins being finishes, he suffered an upset 12-second knockout loss to Sean Sharaf at UFC 331.
Do you think Jon Jones should’ve been featured on the UFC Freedom 250 card, or did Dana White make the right decision to leave “Bones” off the show? Feel free to drop your opinion in the comments below.
