Kazuma Okamoto has transformed into critical run producer for Blue Jays

Following a slow start this season (batting .188 on April 17) for the Toronto Blue Jays, Kazuma Okamoto has transformed himself into a power threat and run-producing machine.

He leads the team with 26 RBI and 10 home runs. His lack of power at the beginning of the season had many doubting his offensive abilities. He's silenced critics and has become such a significant part of the Blue Jays roster.

But all it took was adjusting to North American baseball. The Japanese star has become more comfortable while also earning the respect of the team.

His humor regarding a pregame quesadilla to fuel his home-run power is reminiscent of former Blue Jay Munenori Kawasaki. When he was interviewed, he talked about how eating bananas helped with cramps.

The #BlueJays' lineup would be completely lost without Kazuma Okamoto.

He's been the only legitimate power threat so far and is this team's biggest run producer. Sitting here on May 10th, he might be the most important player on this roster through 39 games.

Defensive reliability and offensive surge of Kazuma Okamoto

His consistency with his bat continues to flourish, but we have also seen Okamoto make clutch defensive plays at third base. His glove at third base has come alive, where he helped turn an incredible double play against the Los Angeles Angels on May 9.

The elite power he has unleashed is classifying him as a high-value asset. As an offensive catalyst, he's boasting an .831 OPS, a .531 xSLG and a 93 mph average exit velocity, as well as a 53.1 percent hard-hit rate and 16.7 percent barrel rate.

Okamoto has solidified his role as a key contributor who has produced clutch hits in high-leverage situations. He's also shown how he can handle MLB velocity and specifically high-velocity fastballs.

This is an incredible pick of a 105.2 mph smash by Kazuma Okamoto and a remarkably quick transfer to start a 5-4-3 DP ... pic.twitter.com/Um3iw1aJpd
