LeBron James has agreed to a reported two-year, $8 million deal with the Philadelphia 76ers, and the move immediately transformed the team’s championship outlook.

Following Friday’s announcement, the 76ers’ NBA title odds at DraftKings Sportsbook improved from 20/1 to 9/1, while their Eastern Conference odds jumped from +750 to +350.

Kalshi traders now give Philadelphia an 11 percent chance of winning the championship.

James, who turns 42 in December, joins Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey and Jaylen Brown as the 76ers pursue their first NBA title in 43 years.

The four-time champion said his latest decision was motivated by his desire to keep competing at the highest level.

“This is my last decision. I’m not going for money. I’m not going for family. What am I really playing for at this point?” James said on X.

“I still want to sacrifice. I still want to work. I still want to grind. I still want to compete, to win and to have a chance at the feeling of winning another championship.

“I believe I can help make the Philadelphia 76ers a championship team and I am so excited to energize a new fan base and start this incredible journey one last time.”

Philadelphia reached the second round last season before being swept by the eventual champion Knicks, while injuries and limited depth hurt the team’s title hopes.

James is entering what is expected to be his 24th NBA season after averaging 20.9 points, 6.1 rebounds and 7.2 assists for the Lakers in 2025-26.
