Liverpool are looking to raid Premier League rivals Crystal Palace for one of their key players, and there are growing signs that a bargain deal could now be possible.

Although the Reds remain undefeated in the Premier League this season, having won two and drawn three of their opening five matches, there are still some problem positions, with Daniel Sturridge insisting his former club need to buy a new defensive midfielder.

Milos Kerkez has also drawn criticism from Jamie Carragher this season, although the Sky Sports pundit understands why Andoni Iraola chose to keep hold of him, saying: "I described Kerkez last season – and it was his first season, maybe it was a bit harsh at the time – he's the Darwin Nunez of full-backs. It's just like 'head down and run', everything Kerkez does is 100 miles an hour.

"They've brought in Kerkez for £40million. He’s had his first season, it wasn't amazing, but right, you go: 'OK, Iraola’s come in from Bournemouth, he knows him, he's still our left-back. Andy Robertson moved on, we had another left-back on loan, so we're probably not going to spend another £40million on another. He's our left-back, let him have another year."

The Hungarian was particularly poor against Newcastle United on the opening day, winning just four of the ten ground duels he contested, losing possession on 15 occasions and failing to complete a single successful cross.

Kerkez still has over three months to prove why he deserves to remain Iraola's first-choice left-back, but the Merseyside club are now looking at new options ahead of the January transfer window.

Liverpool join the race to sign Tyrick Mitchell

According to a report from TEAMtalk, Liverpool have now entered contention to sign Crystal Palace defender Tyrick Mitchell, and the left-back could be available for a cut-price fee, given that his contract is set to expire in 2027.

However, Palace are desperate to retain Mitchell's services, and they are planning to go all out to persuade him to sign a new deal, amid widespread interest, with Manchester United and Chelsea also named as potential suitors.

The Eagles are still hopeful they will be able to keep hold of the Englishman, but his future remains up in the air, which will be concerning, as he is a proven Premier League left-back, who has made 212 appearances in the competition.

The £50,000-a-week defender has also displayed his attacking qualities by scoring two Premier League goals this season, the highest number in the Palace squad, and he was lauded as "incredible" defensively by HLTCO's Dan Cook back in May.
