De Baets AIT Racing rider Lotte van Drunen scored a valuable FIM Motocross World Championship point during the MXGP of Flanders in Lommel. The reigning FIM Women’s Motocross World Champion finished 20th in the opening MX2 moto on the notoriously demanding sand circuit. In the second race, she made an outstanding start but was forced to retire early due to a minor mechanical issue.

Van Drunen made a strong start to the weekend by setting the 22nd fastest time in timed practice. She held her own among the established MX2 riders on a circuit widely regarded as one of the toughest on the calendar. She then finished 23rd in Saturday’s qualifying race.

In the opening moto, Van Drunen delivered a consistent performance. Despite the deep ruts, brutal bumps, and physically demanding conditions, she crossed the finish line in 20th place to earn a well-deserved World Championship point in the MX2 class.

Van Drunen enjoyed an excellent start in the second moto, rounding the opening corner in 10th position and immediately running among the established MX2 front-runners. Unfortunately, her race was cut short by a mechanical problem early on. After just two laps, she was forced to retire.

Although the second moto ended in disappointment, Van Drunen can look back on a highly encouraging performance. Her World Championship point in the opening race, combined with her impressive start in the second moto, once again highlighted her speed and potential against the highly competitive MX2 field.

For Van Drunen and the De Baets AIT Racing team, it was a weekend of mixed emotions, but above all one they can be proud of after competing so strongly under the exceptionally demanding conditions at Lommel.
