Lynn Valk has announced that she has undergone another operation on her lower leg. The Dutch WMX rider is still dealing with the after-effects of the serious crash she suffered at last year’s MXGP of Arnhem.

In that accident, Valk fractured both her tibia and fibula in four places. During the initial surgery, the fractures were stabilized with an intramedullary rod and four screws. Although her recovery progressed well, she continued to experience pain and a lack of confidence while riding.

After consulting with her medical team, it was decided that a second operation was necessary. During the procedure, two of the screws were removed. The surgery was successful, and Valk is now fully focused on her rehabilitation.

As a result of the operation, the Dutch rider will miss the MXGP of Great Britain at Foxhill. Her goal is to make her return at her home round, the MXGP of Arnhem.

“This isn’t the news I wanted to share, but sometimes that’s just how life goes. Ever since my crash in Arnhem last year, I never really felt like my leg was 100 percent again. Whenever I line up, I want to fight for the win—not against myself. Together with my medical team, we decided the best option was to have another operation to remove two screws. The surgery went well, and now it’s time to recover and come back stronger. Unfortunately, that means I’ll miss Foxhill, but I hope to be back for my home Grand Prix in Arnhem.
