Tottenham finally collected their first Premier League point of the season, but their wait for a goal and win continued following a frustrating 0-0 draw against Nottingham Forest.

Roberto De Zerbi’s side arrived at the City Ground after losing 3-0 to Brentford and 2-0 against Newcastle in their opening two league matches.

Spurs needed a response and initially controlled possession, with Savio looking eager to attack Neco Williams from the right.

However, their best opportunity of the first half fell to Omar Marmoush after Pedro Porro released him behind the Forest defence.

The Egypt international had time to steady himself but pulled his effort beyond the far post when he should have tested Matz Sels.

Forest gradually grew into the contest and began causing problems on the break. Morgan Gibbs-White produced the clearest chance for the hosts shortly before the interval.

The Forest captain escaped behind the Tottenham defence following clever movement from Liam Delap, only for Antonin Kinsky to race from his line and block his attempt.

Tottenham raised the tempo after the restart.

Conor Gallagher wasted a promising opening by taking too long on the edge of the penalty area, while Micky van de Ven later directed a header wide.

De Zerbi turned to his bench shortly after the hour, replacing Savio and Destiny Udogie with Mohammed Kudus and Andy Robertson.

Forest thought they had found the breakthrough soon afterwards, as Gibbs-White lifted the ball towards goal and an attempted clearance from Sandro Tonali struck Williams during a scramble before ending up in the net.

The celebrations were cut short when VAR spotted that the ball had hit Williams on the arm, with the goal ruled out and Tottenham dealt a real moment of fortune.

Deadline Day arrival Mykhailo Mudryk was introduced for his Spurs debut, while Dominic Solanke also entered late on, but neither could provide the missing finish.

The final whistle confirmed Tottenham’s first point of the season, but it also left them without a single goal after three league fixtures.

Michael Dawson slams Savio end product in Tottenham draw with Nott'm Forest

Former Tottenham captain Michael Dawson was far from impressed by what he saw from Savio.

Speaking on Sky Sports Soccer Saturday, Dawson criticised the Brazilian’s final ball, describing his end product as “nowhere near good enough”.

Savio was one of Tottenham’s biggest summer signings, arriving from Man City in a deal worth an initial £75 million, which could go up by another £10 million via add-ons.

That price means every performance will be closely examined, particularly while Spurs are struggling so badly in front of goal.

The 22-year-old showed flashes of speed and close control at the City Ground, but too many promising attacks broke down before Tottenham could trouble Sels.

De Zerbi’s decision to remove him with almost half an hour remaining underlined the problem.

Turning possession into chances remains the challenge, and Dawson believes Savio must offer far more when he reaches dangerous areas.

Spurs have at least stopped their run of defeats, but until their new forwards begin producing goals, the pressure surrounding De Zerbi’s difficult start will not disappear.
