Jaylen Brown’s value around the NBA continues to be a major topic following his trade from the Boston Celtics, with one anonymous general manager offering a particularly harsh evaluation of the former Finals MVP, according to The Athletic.

Brown has long been viewed as a polarizing player among league executives, as traditional production and accolades have often contrasted with how advanced analytics rate his overall impact.

“Though the idea of him being viewed as the seventh-best player on a given team was widely mocked, a recent report that one front-office member saw Brown in that way illuminated the reality that advanced analytics never shined too brightly on Brown’s game.”

The Athletic also cited an anonymous current NBA general manager who expressed an even lower opinion of Brown’s standing across the league.

“Even more pointedly, a current general manager, speaking anonymously to comment on internal team discussions, told The Athletic in the wake of the trade that he doesn’t view Brown as a top-50 player in the NBA.”
