The summer window of 2026/27 has been one of change for Newcastle United, as the hierarchy try to rebuild the club following the loss of numerous key figures.

Manager Eddie Howe and regular starters such as Bruno Guimarães, Sandro Tonali and Antony Gordon all departed St James’ Park - leaving new boss Matthias Jaissle with a rebuild job on his hands.

The Magpies spent over £250m on new additions to provide the German with the tools needed for success, and it appears as though some of the arrivals have already made an instant mark.

However, the supporters will be hoping that the final summer arrival will be the best of the lot after completing his move to Tyneside during the closing stages of the window.

How Fernandez-Pardo can complete Newcastle's attack

Yoane Wissa and Anthony Elanga have started the 2026/27 in tremendous form and look set to play a massive role within Jaissle’s system during his time in charge at Newcastle.

However, the hierarchy have been on the hunt for a left-sided winger to complete the attack, with Matias Fernandez-Pardo the man chosen to do exactly that on Tyneside.

The Magpies forked out a reported £51m to secure the signature of the Belgian attacker, who has subsequently arrived on a long-term deal from French side Lille.

Despite being a long-standing target, many of the supporters in the North East may be unaware of the talent the youngster possesses, but just how will he fit into Jaissle’s system?

Well, compared to all other U21 wingers across Europe’s top-five leagues, Fernandez-Pardo ranked second for big chances created and shots on target registered.

Such numbers showcase to provide the goods for those around him within attacking areas, whilst having the devastating ability to find the back of the net alone.

His tally of 13 combined goals and assists in his 29 league appearances last term certainly backs up such claims, with the youngster having the platform to reach the next level in the Premier League.

Newcastle have already signed a bigger talent than Fernandez-Pardo

This summer has seen a real impetus on landing young talents who develop at Newcastle and become elite-level talents during their respective periods at St James’ Park.

The average age of the new additions made by the Magpies hierarchy was just 21 years and nine months, with every addition made being aged 24 or under.

Despite being just three games into his tenure on Tyneside, Jaissle appears to be a man who can get the best out of such talents, which only bodes well for the future of the new arrivals.

He will be hoping to have a similar impact on 17-year-old attacker Johan Martinez, who’s set to arrive at the club ahead of the start of the 2027/28 campaign.

It was confirmed back in April that the Magpies had agreed a deal with Independiente del Valle over a deal for the teenager - who has developed through ranks of his boyhood club.

A fee in the region of £2.5m has been paid for the Ecuadorian talent, with global talent scout Thomas Federspiel already working his magic after just six months in the role.

His tender age could see him take time to make a major impact at St James’ Park, but should he continue on his current trajectory, the club may have a world-beater on their hands.

Martinez has received huge praise during the early stages of his professional career, as demonstrated by Antonio Mango’s comment, with the talent scout dubbing him as “one of the finest talents in Ecuador.”

Other journalists have also heaped praise on the U17 international, which saw him being labelled “one of South America’s most exciting prospects” after the Magpies beat Bayer Leverkusen in the race for his signature.

The jump between Independiente del Valle and Newcastle is undoubtedly a mammoth one, but if the teenager can emulate his fearless and nonchalant displays - he’s bound to be a hit.

He demonstrated his quality earlier this year with an outrageous rabona assist, with Martinez often gliding past the opposition with ease back in his homeland.

Fernandez-Pardo will certainly be Jaissle’s first-choice left-winger in the immediate future, but his long-term place could be under threat if the Ecuadorian can develop on the right path.

Such a move injected a huge sense of optimism into the Magpies and rightly so, with the teenager a player who could become a major fan-favourite during his time on Tyneside.
