A 2-2 draw with Liverpool on the opening day handed Newcastle fans a first glimpse of what life could look like if the Magpies get it right every week. It was exciting, intense and unexpected at that stage of Jaissle's tenure.

Since then, a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Leeds United have shown what can happen when things do not go right in the German's system. Newcastle were dismantled and struggled in possession. In many ways, Leeds played Jaissle's own game against him.

Newcastle then rounded off with a 2-1 victory over Hull City, leaving their new manager with eight points from a possible 15 and a respectable start.

There is still, of course, plenty of room for improvement, however, and that may arrive in the form of January arrivals. After a difficult summer of recruitment, those on Tyneside are already turning their attention towards the winter window.

Names like Giorgio Scalvini have already threatened to steal the headlines on that front and it looks like midfield additions could be the focus once again, with Lamine Camara also on Newcastle's reported radar.

It still feels absurd that Camara isn't a Premier League player. The AS Monaco midfielder was on the verge of becoming a Chelsea player on deadline day.

The Ligue 1 club believed they needed the sale when Folarin Balogun's deal to Everton was off, only for that deal to receive the green light once again and for Camara's own £47m deal to be cancelled.

The biggest twist then arrived when Balogun cancelled his own deal in the dying embers of the window and it was too late to get Camara's move to Stamford Bridge back on track. Chelsea blasted Monaco as unprofessional and there has been a sour taste ever since.

The midfielder is still very much on the Blues' radar, but things may still prove to be complicated in January. According to TeamTalk, Newcastle are now plotting a hijack to sign Camara ahead of Chelsea in what would be an excellent move.

"Without the ball, he's already at an exceptional level, truly fantastic. This is largely due to his character: he has an exemplary team mentality. He always sacrifices himself for the collective, so I'm very happy to work with him. I absolutely want to keep him because I know that this type of player is rare in football." - Monaco manager Filipe Luis on Camara

Since staying at Monaco, Camara has simply picked up where he left off. No player has made more tackles than the midfielder in Ligue 1 so far this season. The same can be said for recoveries when it comes to outfield players and only two players have won more duels. As a result, it is hardly a surprise to hear that only recently his manager Luis described him as "one of the best midfielders in the world"

The chase is very much on to land his signature and it's clear that Camara would finally hand Newcastle the midfield star that they've been seeking since the summer.
