The transfer window brought significant upheaval on Tyneside, with Anthony Gordon, Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes all leaving in big-money deals just 12 months on from the much maligned departure of Alexander Isak.

It left Newcastle needing to shore up confidence among those who did stay, and prove the group heading into the new season under Matthias Jaissle has stability at its core rather than another year of uncertainty around those linked with exits, such as Tino Livramento and Lewis Hall.

In Hall's case, the rising young full-back is now on the verge of putting pen to paper on a new contract.

The Magpies moved quickly to secure his long-term future once it became clear he'd be staying beyond the window, and the deal is understood to be close to being finalised and announced in what will no doubt be a blow to Manchester United, who spent large parts of the summer chasing an elite left-back to succeed Luke Shaw.

It's a deal that reflects Newcastle's determination not to be caught out again. Jaissle is said to rate Hall highly, and getting an agreement over the line early is being viewed as part of a wider effort to avoid the sort of uncertainty that dogged the club's business this summer.

Jaissle wants to have a settled spine in the squad tied down well before the next window opens, especially at a time when so many young players with little Premier League experienced have arrived in the summer transfer window, and Hall's new deal is seemingly just the first step.

According to Craig Hope, Newcastle will now turn their attention to Jacob Murphy and Joe Willock, with talks over extensions for both players set to take place after they stayed at the club beyond deadline day. The pair are currently in the final year of their existing deals, but club chiefs are ready to explore extending those terms by a further 12 months through to summer 2028.

Murphy in particular possesses the experience and professionalism needed in a squad hoping to develop the likes of Aladji Bamba, Sean Steur and Bazoumana Toure into ready-made top flight players. Jaissle is said to value his professionalism highly, having knocked back an offer worth around £15m from Nottingham Forest during the window.

Indeed, the winger has been a mainstay for Newcastle in recent years, and his output has only grown.

His 2024/25 campaign in particular stands out, with eight goals and 12 assists in 35 league appearances making it comfortably his most productive season in a Newcastle shirt.

Eddie Howe was full of praise for the winger's growth and application: "For me, he's just been that model of consistency in his approach and attitude.

With Newcastle now moving to secure his long-term future, that consistency looks set to be rewarded with a new deal at St James' Park.
