Unlike last summer, the Magpies know exactly where they stand regarding finances and personnel. Anthony Gordon's £69m move to Barcelona has been confirmed far earlier than Alexander Isak's long-awaited move to Liverpool last summer, and those at St James' Park are already thinking about reinforcements as a result.

Of course, replacing Gordon still won't be easy. The versatile winger became their talisman in Isak's absence and there's good reason why Barcelona spent big to secure his signature.
That said, there are already a number of names on Newcastle's radar. Abde Ezzalzouli is especially one to watch after an excellent season with Real Betis, and he could be one of two wide men that arrive in the coming months.
According to Sky Germany's Florian Plettenberg, Newcastle are now racing to sign Zadok Yohanna and want the teenager to ditch his agreement with Brighton in order to move to Tyneside instead this summer.
The Nigerian winger has impressed at AIK in Sweden and is a serious name on the Magpies' radar. Whether it's too late for them to lure him out of Brighton's clutches is the question that still needs answering, however.
In terms of quality, the 18-year-old is already playing a starring role in first-team football, with five goals and four assists in just 12 appearances this season. Given how young he still is, those numbers are incredibly promising.
Newcastle must beat Brighton to Yohanna
It wasn't so long ago that Newcastle had a tricky, young winger in their clutches. His name was Yankuba Minteh and he is now a Brighton star after the Magpies were forced to sell thanks to PSR issues. Since then, Anthony Elanga has arrived in a deal worth £55m and struggled to hit the mark once.
Something has to change for Newcastle out wide and that could come courtesy of Yohanna. The wide man is so full of potential. Even if he's not the direct replacement for Gordon, he could become the star of the show in years to come at St James' Park.
Should Newcastle sign Yohanna this summer?
There's a good reason why Brighton have struck an agreement so early. Newcastle now need to do everything to ensure that agreement never reaches the final stages.
At a time when they've got to be cautious about SCR rules after missing out on European football, signing future stars could be the perfect way to deliver upgrades for Eddie Howe.
