Nottingham Forest are still hunting for their first Premier League win under Oliver Glasner, but two points from three games do not tell the whole story.

Their opening day ended in frustration when Anton Stach’s late free kick gave Leeds a 1-0 victory at the City Ground. Forest then produced a far better display at Anfield, twice taking the lead before Liverpool fought back to draw 2-2.

Another point followed against Tottenham. Nico Williams thought he had grabbed the winner, only for his effort to be ruled out after a VAR handball check in a game Forest felt was there to be won.

The results have not been ideal, but there is no sense that Forest are already in trouble.

Glasner has inherited a squad learning another new system and the last two performances offered far more hope than the opening defeat.

This was also a very different transfer window from the frantic Forest business supporters have become used to.

Only five senior players arrived, with the club choosing clear targets instead of collecting numbers.

Liam Delap, who was praised for his outing against Spurs, joined from Chelsea for a club record £45 million and gives Glasner a powerful new option through the middle.

Ousmane Diomande strengthened the defence, while Daniel Muñoz was reunited with the manager who got the best from him at Crystal Palace.

Xaver Schlager added bite and experience on a free transfer, with goalkeeper Steven Benda completing the group.

The biggest deal, however, was an exit.

Man City paid £116 million for Elliot Anderson, an extraordinary return on Forest’s investment but a sale which removed a major presence from the midfield.

Taiwo Awoniyi also moved to Coventry and Omari Hutchinson joined Milan on loan. Forest made good money and cut the squad, yet the lack of a direct Anderson replacement left one obvious question after deadline day.

That is why their interest in Corinthians youngster André refuses to go away.

Nottingham Forest in talks to sign Corinthians star Andre for January

RTI Esporte reports that Forest and the Brazilian club are still discussing a deal despite the English window now being closed.

The idea would be for the midfielder to finish the Brazilian season with Corinthians before arriving in Nottingham in January.

The report claims Corinthians want £15 million guaranteed and another £6 million in bonuses. Forest are trying to reduce this price as Evangelos Marinakis chases a cut-price deal, while also negotiating the conditions attached to the extras.

Corinthians president Osmar Stabile said after the deadline that Forest had failed to respond to his club’s counteroffer in time, which appeared to kill the summer move.

However, this latest development suggests it may only have delayed it.

André is a 20-year-old defensive midfielder who has risen through the Corinthians academy.

The Brazilian side hold 70 per cent of his rights, making the structure of any offer especially important to them.

Money is a major part of this story.

RTI Esporte says Corinthians planned to raise nearly £22m through transfers this calendar year and still require a big sale to help their difficult financial position.

André was close to joining Milan earlier in the year, but Stabile blocked that transfer. Forest’s continued interest shows the chance of a move to Europe has not disappeared.

There is also a familiar route between these clubs. Forest previously took Murillo and Carlos Miguel from Corinthians, so their recruitment team already knows the São Paulo market well.

Schlager can help immediately, yet André would be a signing for the future as well as the present. His age, position and potential could all help to fill the gap left by Anderson.

The summer move died at the deadline, but a January deal may already be taking shape.
