O’Shaquie Foster believes Shakur Stevenson deliberately avoided shaking his hand after their post-fight confrontation because it would have increased interest in a future fight. Foster revisited the tense exchange following his victory over Raymond Ford and questioned Stevenson’s comments afterward.
“Oh, yeah. For sure. I invited him in, but the things he was saying just really didn’t make sense,” said Brian Custer on his YouTube channel.
“How you going to call me a bum? But your boy, I just beat your man. So what that make him like? It’s like, damn, you going to just [expletive] on your boy like that, right?
“Then you call me a bum. But you and everybody was over there helping him. And doing everything day in and day out with him. So what that make y’all if I’m the bum? It just didn’t make no sense.”
Foster also addressed the tense moment that followed, including Stevenson’s decision not to shake his hand in front of the crowd.
“As you can see he didn’t want to shake on it. He tried to use the excuse that he wasn’t shaking nobody.
“I said I wasn’t shaking Ray Ford and them hand off of what his coach said about me after the fight. But that just gave him an excuse not to shake my hand in front of the world because he know once he would have shook my hand, it’s go time.
“The fans, it solidified. So, you know, he going to duck. I can see it coming. I can see it.”
Foster and Stevenson have exchanged words in recent weeks, with Foster repeatedly naming Stevenson as the opponent he wants next. During the interview, Foster said he believes a handshake between the two fighters would have further increased public demand for the matchup.
