Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayIt sounds as though there will be another big name on the trade market this summer.
According to USA Today's MLB insider Bob Nightengale, opposing front offices are confident that the Miami Marlins will be dealing their ace Sandy Alcantara.
The plot has thickened regarding Alcantara trade rumors as the Marlins find themselves in an in-between position as of mid-June. They are well out of the race in the NL east, trailing the Braves by 11.5 games. But they sit just two games back of the final wild-card spot.
Alcantara has been a highly coveted trade chip since last season. The 2022 Cy Young winner has posted a 6-4 and 4.25 ERA with 71 strikeouts and a 1.22 WHIP.
While his performance has been mediocre so far this season with inconsistencies with limiting hard contact, especially compared to his lofty 2022 Cy Young standards, he has still shown flashes of success. In addition, he owns a solid walk-rate of 5.7%, ranking in the 89th percentile.

Sandy Alcantara continues to be a hot trade chip
Several teams eyed Alcantara as a potential rotation upgrade, with the Chicago White Sox and the Athletics are among two teams that would be a great fit for Alcantara to maximize their success.
The New York Yankees are also linked to the right-hander as they look to upgrade their starting pitching. If the Marlins do deal him, they would seek a substantial return package of prospects to restock their farm system.
Alcantara is in the final year of his contract, giving the Marlins further incentive to explore a trade. Contending teams view him as a hot commodity as a frontline starter who could thrive in a new environment and rediscover his dominance.
With the Marlins lagging behind true contenders, Alcantara's contract uncertainty and a taxed pitching staff dealing with injuries to key starters Robby Snelling, Adam Mazur and Eury Perez, maximizing Alcantara's trade value now would be wise.
In his latest performance on June 12, Alcantara picked up his sixth win of the season against the Pittsburgh Pirates. He pitched eight innings, giving up three runs on five hits with only one walk and seven strikeouts. He also recorded his 1,000th career strikeout in that outing.
It certainly sounds like the former Cy Young winner will be plying his trade in a new uniform before summer ends.
