The Orioles announced a flurry of roster moves ahead of Tuesday’s game against the Rockies. Baltimore selected the contract of righty Albert Suárez. With lefty Luis De León also added to the 40-man roster, the club has cleared two spots by designating right-hander Cameron Weston and left-hander Nick Raquet for assignment.

It was previously reported that Cade Povich would be optioned, which cleared a big-league spot for De León. Christian Franklin also went to the 10-day IL, opening room for Heston Kjerstad. Baltimore also activated Luis Robert Jr., who was claimed off waivers from the Mets earlier this week.

Weston made his debut at the end of May. He tossed a scoreless inning against the Blue Jays. The righty punched out Andres Gimenez for his first big-league strikeout. Weston was sent back down the following day. He was briefly recalled in July, but didn’t pitch before being optioned again.

The 26-year-old Weston has had an uneven minor league season. He’s striking out a career-best 11.57 batters per nine innings, but it’s come with 5.44 walks per nine. Weston has operated largely as a reliever at Triple-A, though he’s also made seven starts. He’s compiled a 7.89 ERA across 51 1/3 innings.

Raquet opened the season with the Cardinals. He was DFAed in April and traded to the Orioles. The lefty was up and down several times with the big-league club. Raquet totaled 3 2/3 innings across various stints with the Orioles. He permitted three earned runs in four appearances.

The Orioles have struggled to find viable left-handed options in the bullpen with Keegan Akin missing most of the year. Grant Wolfram has been the most-used southpaw, but he’s turned in a 4.81 ERA in 50 appearances. Dietrich Enns was bumped off the roster in May and hasn’t pitched well in Triple-A. Raquet didn’t do much with his brief look. Josh Walker has been the best of the group, recording a 2.33 ERA in 19 1/3 innings.

This is the fourth time Suarez has been added back to the 40-man this season. He’s passed through waivers and stuck with the club each time he’s been designated for assignment. The veteran has a respectable 3.93 ERA over 25 games out of the bullpen. He’s typically been used in a long relief role. Suarez and De León give manager Craig Albernaz a pair of arms that can cover multiple innings in relief.
