The Pirates have agreed to a minor league contract with outfielder Kyler Fedko, as first reported by Rich Walsh of KDKA-TV. Colin Beazley of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette confirmed the news, noting that Fedko will formally sign his contract tomorrow.

The Twins drafted Fedko in 2021. He has never been a highly-ranked prospect, but he finally made his way onto Minnesota’s lists at both FanGraphs and Baseball America earlier this year. Fedko is a versatile defender and prolific base-stealer. He also hit quite well in the minors over the last two years, showing off a nice blend of power and plate discipline. Over 205 games in 2025 and ’26, the righty batter hit 45 home runs, drew 113 walks, and stole 48 bases, posting a 129 wRC+. He played all three outfield positions, as well as a bit of first and second base.

In June, Fedko got the call to join the Twins for his debut. However, his Triple-A success did not translate to the majors. He went hitless in 16 at-bats, walking twice but striking out eight times. To add insult to injury, he was caught stealing on his only attempt. The 26-year-old returned to Triple-A St. Paul before the All-Star break. 

In August, Fedko tore his ACL, MCL, and LCL on a play in the outfield, requiring knee surgery that ended his 2026 season. So, after the Twins designated him for assignment on Tuesday, they had no choice but to release him – injured players cannot be placed on outright waivers.

Now, Fedko will continue his recovery with a new organization. He is a Pennsylvania native, and presumably, he plans to remain with the Pirates over the offseason as he works toward a return. It’s not yet clear if Fedko will be healthy in time for spring training, though it would not be surprising if he gets off to a delayed start in 2027.
