Stan Kroenke already conquered Los Angeles football. Now, he’s crossing county lines and stepping into the batter’s box.

The Los Angeles Rams owner has agreed to purchase a controlling interest in the Los Angeles Angels from Arte Moreno in a stunning late-season transaction that now adds a Major League Baseball franchise to Kroenke’s sprawling sports empire that includes the NBA’s Denver Nuggets, the NHL’s Colorado Avalanche, the MLS’s Colorado Rapids and Premier League club Arsenal.

It also ends Moreno’s turbulent 23-year run atop the franchise.

The $4 billion price tag sets an MLB record, edging out April’s $3.9 billion sale of the San Diego Padres.

Kroenke Sports & Entertainment announced the agreement Tuesday, with the transaction expected to close in the first quarter of 2027, pending MLB approval and customary closing conditions.

“The Angels are a storied franchise anchored in a great market,” Kroenke said in a statement. “We look forward to an exciting future with the Angels organization.”

Kroenke is proven winner as an owner, with two Super Bowl titles, two Stanley Cup wins and an NBA Championship.

The sale came as welcome news to frustrated Angels fans, who have not seen the organization win a championship since 2002 or make the playoffs since 2014.

Moreno became MLB’s first Latino owner when he purchased the Angels shortly after they won the 2002 World Series, and he presided over its most successful sustained stretch, including five AL West titles from 2004-2009. But those glory years gave way to one of baseball’s most confounding collapses.

Despite having generational superstars Mike Trout (2011 to present) and Shohei Ohtani (2018 to 2023) on the roster, the Angels have not won a playoff game since 2009.

They have finished last in the AL West each of the last two years and entered September 2026 in the cellar again. Chants of “sell the team” have now become a familiar soundtrack among upset fans at Angel Stadium.

Now those fans have finally gotten their wish.

“The Angels Organization is pleased to announce this transaction with Kroenke Sports & Entertainment,” said Moreno in a statement released by the Rams. “The Moreno Family has been honored to steward the Angels for 23 years and we believe with KSE’s experience and success they are the best next owner for the franchise. The Angels Organization looks forward to continuing its commitment to the fans, our employees, the players and our business partners.”

The deal also dramatically expands Kroenke’s footprint in Southern California. His companies already own the Rams and developed SoFi Stadium and the surrounding 300-acre Hollywood Park complex in Inglewood. In February, the stadium is set to host its second Super Bowl in five years.

Kroenke also purchased 52 acres of land on an old mall site in Woodland Hills, where he moved the Rams’ practice facility and is currently constructing a Rams Village for fans, similar to what the Dallas Cowboys have built in Frisco, Texas.

Adding the Angels gives Kroenke something even bigger: a year-round foothold stretching from Woodland Hills to Inglewood and down into Orange County.

And for a baseball franchise that has spent 11 consecutive Octobers watching the postseason from home, Kroenke’s championship-filled résumé arrives carrying something Angels fans have desperately lacked: Hope.
