Mikey Moore at Glasgow Rangers is the perfect example of showing faith in a new signing, the teenager initially getting off to a slow start under Russell Martin.

There had even been talk at one stage of the young winger seeking a swift return to parent club Tottenham Hotspur, yet come the end of the season, he'd proven a revelation at Ibrox.

A deserving recipient of the PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year award, Moore was a roaring success in Glasgow. Will the Gers manage to sign a talent of that ilk again?

Why Rangers weren't able to re-sign Mikey Moore

The frustration of recent years is that so many of the success stories have only been on board for a brief time, with almost every campaign of late having been dominated by a loan signing.

From Malik Tillman, to Abdallah Sima, to Vaclav Cerny and then to Moore, the Gers have struck gold in the loan market time and again, yet have been unable to secure a permanent stay for any of that quartet.

In Moore's case, there had been talk at the end of last season that the Light Blues were seeking to extend his stay one way or another, be that through a loan extension or a permanent deal.

Danny Rohl had openly admitted he was keen for the 19-year-old to stay put, suggesting that talks would be held, although with the German subsequently moving on himself, that might have had a bearing on the winger's future.

Equally too, those back at Spurs were keen to see him up close again in pre-season, before deciding that a spell in one of Europe's big five leagues would be a better way to nurture his talent.

How Moore is getting on in this season so far

Relegation for Spurs might have seen Moore stay put to feature in the Championship, although Roberto De Zerbi's end-of-season heroics ensured the north London side avoided the embarrassment of a drop into the second tier.

That 'success' only heightened the probability of Moore leaving on loan, with Rangers in the frame, yet the youngster did feature heavily across pre-season, scoring twice against Hoffenheim.

He also started on the opening weekend against Brentford in the Premier League, prior to netting a stunner in the Carabao Cup against Charlton Athletic, before an influx of attacking arrivals saw him sent out on loan to Bundesliga side FC Koln.

The teenager earned rave reviews for his performance on debut off the bench, even as Koln fell to a heavy defeat to Stuttgart, while he's since started each of the last two games in the German top-flight.

He's still waiting to provide a goal or an assist, although the dynamic brilliance he showcased at Ibrox is firmly on show, having averaged 2.3 successful dribbles per game.

There's a fearless, individualistic quality to his game that is so impressive, with those in Glasgow perhaps hoping to land a similar level of talent in 2027.

How Rangers could sign the biggest talent in England

The transfer window has only just come to a close, yet attention will soon turn to January and the chance to strengthen even further in 2027.

It's fair to say that after so much upheaval over the last 12 months, Rangers could do with a period of calm in terms of recruitment, although a marquee signing or two wouldn't go amiss.

There does still appear to be room for reinforcement in the forward line, hence why the Gers are believed to be among the clubs interested in signing Arsenal starlet, Max Dowman.

As reported this week, more than a dozen clubs have reached out to the Gunners to register their interest in a potential loan move for the teenager, with both Rangers and rivals Celtic among the interested parties to have held talks.

Dowman, still only 16, will be eligible for a loan when he turns 17 on 31 December, perfect timing ahead of the start of the January window.

The north London side are said to be open to the possibility of a loan exit for the young wonderkid, with first-team opportunities set to be limited in the short term at the Emirates.

That's not to say Dowman isn't highly regarded at his current side, with Arsenal merely being patient with a player who has been dubbed the "biggest talent in England" by Hale End academy expert Will Balsam.

When Rangers secured the loan signing of Moore, for instance, the teenager had shown flashes of his potential back at Spurs, although he'd only scored and assisted three goals for the club at the time of the move.

In Dowman's case, even at just 16, he is already a step ahead of his compatriot, having scored and assisted four goals from his first 15 first-team appearances under Mikel Arteta, playing a small role in last season's title win.

Arguably the most memorable goal of Arsenal's season was Dowman's solo run against Everton in stoppage time, having already played his part in Viktor Gyokeres' opener in that vital cameo.

As for 2026/27, the playmaker only recently hit the headlines for netting a brace in the Carabao Cup win over Ipswich Town, again producing a sublime piece of skill to weave his way into the penalty area, before slotting home.

There's a graceful, balletic feel to his performances, a boy of mere 16 already making senior opposition look silly with his dribbling prowess.

It's never straightforward when it comes to predicting the course of a young player's career, but Dowman looks like a future superstar for club and country, a level above even Moore.

Bringing him to Ibrox, even for just a brief time, could well be a masterstroke for Derek McInnes and co.
