Winning in the Old Firm won't define this season for Glasgow Rangers, but Sunday afternoon felt like a potential turning point for new boss Derek McInnes.

Following a wretched European run, the Gers have turned a corner domestically in recent weeks, albeit with the derby win providing a proper statement for this new regime.

The Light Blues only came out on top once in this fixture last season, with Danny Rohl overseeing a 3-1 win against the hapless Wilfried Nancy at Celtic Park back in January.

They say to never fall in love with a loan player, but it was hard not to in Moore's case, the Tottenham Hotspur starlet proving a real shining light following Rohl's arrival in the dugout.

Following an initial slow start in Glasgow, the then-18-year-old really came alive under the German coach, with the January clash at Parkhead providing a proper breakout moment.

The scenes were euphoric among the men in blue as Moore drilled his effort past an ageing Kasper Schmeichel, with the Gers coming from behind to seal a thumping win against Nancy's men.

The fleet-footed winger was also on the scoresheet in the final meeting between the two sides last season, albeit with his opener proving in vain as it was Celtic who turned things around to seal a 3-1 win on that occasion.

A goalscorer in two derby meetings on the road, Moore's standout performance actually came in the March clash at Ibrox, with the Light Blues having been rampant in the first-half in that 2-2 draw.

It was a truly breathtaking display from the Englishman, even if two-goal hero Youssef Chermiti stole the headlines, with Moore getting the better of opposition right-back, Julian Araujo, time and again.

He was relentless and fearless, almost unplayable for a spell, that outing seeing him create two 'big chances', while attempting six dribbles in total.

Having since returned to north London, before joining FC Koln on loan, Moore has left behind an undoubted void back at Ibrox. And yet, is that hole starting to be filled?

The flanks have been a long-standing issue for the Gers, with there having been so much upheaval in that department again this summer, amid the exits of Moore, Andreas Skov Olsen and Oliver Antman.

The likes of Kim Min-su and Badredine Bouanani have at least offered a splash of quality following their arrivals so far this summer, while hopes still remain high for returning loanee, Findlay Curtis.

In terms of the man who might well take on Moore's mantle off the left, Djeidi Gassama could well be that player on current evidence, even if he has endured a turbulent time of it at Ibrox so far.

Signed from Sheffield Wednesday a year ago, the France-born speedster hit the ground running in Europe last summer, although that early form under Martin quickly dried up, as he lost his place to Moore on his favoured side.

Shifted over to the right for much of 2025/26, Rangers just didn't see the best of Gassama, it must be said, with all the pace, all the promise, not always translating to an end product.

That frustrating form notably sparked comparisons to a certain Rabbi Matondo, the Welshman having been another electric young winger who ultimately flattered to deceive at Ibrox, never living up to his potential.

Now, on the evidence of this season so far, the 23-year-old Gassama still needs to up his own game in terms of goal contributions, but back on the left flank, he is starting to find his groove again.

Indeed, on the weekend, the £2.2m man's performance was akin to Moore's display back in March, having afforded young Colby Donovan a torrid afternoon down that side.

Gassama looked to take the game to the Celtic right-back time and again, and even if everything didn't come off, he was central to the team's attacking play.

It was his direct running up against Donovan that ultimately led to Kevin Kelsy's strike to make it 2-0, with Rangers rewarded for the winger's front-foot approach.

Again, he needs to mirror that with an end product, although Moore wasn't always so consistent himself in that regard, scoring and assisting just ten times in a Rangers shirt.

It was more about the attacking impetus Moore provided down the flanks, with Gassama, such is his innate blend of speed and dribbling prowess, certainly able to replicate that type of impact, if he isn't already.

Having at one stage looked doomed to fail, in the mould of Matondo, there is hope yet for the former Paris Saint-Germain man.
