After graduating with first-class honours from the University of Central Lancashire in 2019, it didn't take long for Emilio to clinch his first job in journalism at Snack Media, now Valnet.

Emilio has written for a host of the company's biggest past and current football news websites - Vital Football, The Transfer Tavern and Football FanCast.

Emilio's strengths include the intricacies of football transfers, while he particularly enjoys writing about the business side of football. He has covered Tottenham Hotspur on a weekly basis for a number of years now, developing a deep understanding of the culture and what Lilywhites fans engage with.

Rangers have wasted little time backing Derek McInnes this summer, but the Ibrox rebuild looks far from complete.

Cammy Devlin has become the latest arrival after leaving Hearts, while links with Partizan Belgrade captain Vanja Dragojevic continue to gather pace as the Teddy Bears look to add another young leader to the squad.

A right-winger and left-sided centre-back also remain priorities (Sky Sports), yet another central midfielder is still firmly on the agenda despite the recent business.

One of the names refusing to disappear is Tromso midfielder Jens Hjerto-Dahl, although Rangers may now have a fresh obstacle to overcome.

Reports suggest Cardiff City have entered the picture and are attempting to prise the 20-year-old away from the Scottish giants.

The Championship club are understood to be exploring a deal with Tromso, who remain determined to secure maximum value for one of the Eliteserien's standout young talents.

Despite Cardiff's interest, Rangers have reason to remain optimistic.

Hjerto-Dahl has already spoken positively about the prospect of moving to Ibrox, admitting Rangers would be his preferred destination if he leaves Norway.

That public stance could prove significant if more clubs test Tromso's resolve during the remainder of the window.

The midfielder has developed rapidly over the last three seasons, becoming a regular in a Tromso side currently challenging near the top of the Norwegian league.

Rather than simply sitting in front of the defence, Hjerto-Dahl is known for covering huge distances, recovering possession aggressively and driving his team forward once the ball is won.

The sensation has already made over 100 appearances for Tromso, bagging 18 goals and 11 assists, with it clear as day why Rangers are so keen.

Those qualities fit the energetic profile McInnes has repeatedly looked for since taking charge.

Money, however, is likely to determine how quickly this saga reaches its conclusion.

Rangers to push for Hjerto-Dahl in days with Cardiff threat nullified

TEAMtalk reports that Cardiff are willing to test Tromso's resolve, although Rangers remain confident their long-standing interest and the player's preference could still swing negotiations in their favour.

They also state that McInnes' side are poised to accelerate their interest in Hjerto-Dahl 'in the coming days' after 'very positive' talks with his agents, and the Gers are in dialogue with Tromso.

This information comes courtesy of TEAMtalk, who have improved its reputation for transfer reporting over recent years. Nevertheless, transfer stories remain fluid by nature. This report appears well-sourced but should still be treated as developing until officially confirmed by the clubs involved.

Tromso are negotiating from a position of strength because Hjerto-Dahl is contracted until 2029. Reports suggest Rangers have explored a deal worth around £5-6million, while other claims indicate Cardiff have discussed even larger figures close to £7 million. Rangers must balance ambition with Financial Sustainability rules and wider squad investment.

Still only 20, Hjerto-Dahl has already boasts significant senior experience in Norway and continues to improve with every season. He is capable of breaking up attacks before quickly turning defence into attack, making him a modern all-action midfielder.

McInnes reportedly wants Rangers to become more aggressive without the ball while remaining composed in possession. Hjerto-Dahl appears well suited to that. If he adapts quickly to Scottish football, he could strengthen the midfield immediately while also developing into one of the club's most valuable stars over the coming years.

The Norwegian club are under no pressure to sell immediately thanks to his lengthy contract, meaning any interested side will probably need to match their valuation before a transfer gathers real momentum.

With Rangers still expected to reshape the squad before the transfer deadline, Hjerto-Dahl remains one of the clearest examples of the club targeting players with both immediate first-team potential and long-term resale value.

Cardiff's involvement may complicate matters, but if the midfielder continues to prioritise a move to Glasgow, Rangers are still favourites to get a deal over the line.
