Everyone is well aware of the infamous saying: all good things must come to an end. 

For the Boston Red Sox, that good thing was a 15-game winning streak that was ultimately ended just one game short of franchise history.

The Red Sox headed into Game 2 of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Baltimore Orioles just one win away from 16 in a row, a number that would've set the franchise record for wins.

Instead, though, it was Baltimore turning the tables on Boston and rather than allowing the Red Sox to jump out to an early lead as they did in Game 1, it was this time the Orioles using a big first inning of their own to take command of the game.

Baltimore scored four times in the first inning to jump out to a 4-0 lead, one that it never relinquished on the way to snapping the Red Sox's winning streak at 15 games.

The winning streak has positioned the Red Sox for a playoff push

Prior to the improbable 15-game winning streak, the Red Sox were among the worst teams in the American League, and a postseason appearance was the last thing anyone was thinking of.

Now, Boston holds the third and final AL wild-card spot and has positioned itself to make aggressive moves ahead of the Aug. 3 MLB trade deadline.

In what has turned out to be a weak American League, the Red Sox front office making moves to improve the team for the stretch run of the season seems like the most likely of outcomes.
