Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero defends his WBA welterweight world title against Teofimo Lopez tonight in an intriguing all-American showdown at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

‘Rolly’ returns to action for the first time since his upset victory over Ryan Garcia in May 2025, a result which revived his career and eventually saw him elevated to full WBA champion after Jaron Ennis moved up in weight. The 30-year-old now makes the first defence of the belt against another former world champion.

Lopez, meanwhile, is stepping up to welterweight as he looks to bounce back from a comprehensive defeat to Shakur Stevenson earlier this year. The former lightweight and super-lightweight champion lost his WBO belt in that contest and now has the opportunity to become a three-weight world champion by defeating Romero.

The hard-hitting and unorthodox ‘Rolly’ looks to prove his championship credentials against a fighter who previously had an argument as one of the best pound-for-pound in the world. Lopez, supremely slick on his best day, looks to regain that status, though is known for blowing hot and cold. The winner will be in prime position in a thriving division, and likely look to unify against the winner of Ryan Garcia vs Conor Benn in September.

Teofimo Lopez wins a forgettable fight through activity, speed and accuracy against a passive Romero, who failed to capitalise on a big shot and cut in the fifth. ‘Rolly’ lacked any sort of urgency, and was beaten soundly by a sharp Lopez, who becomes a three-weight world champion. The 114-114 card is notably bad.
